You raise some good points. I accept a new manager wont keep us up given the shower in our ranks but I also dont think Bignot is in our long term future. Is it best to linger on with a failure who won't be with us next season who can't even organise a basic defensive unit? He lost the dressing room months ago, why give him any longer? Because he's only contracted until the end of the season anyway, if I understand correctly. If you accept that we won't stay up anyway, why spend money getting rid of him now? "Lost the dressing room" is an abstract argument that suggests you side with the players. The way I see it, this lot haven't done anything to earn the right to take umbrage with any manager. If you think I side with the players then I suppose you dont understand where I'm coming from. Theyrea total shower as I've said before. I just dont see why youd persist with a manager like Bignot who clearly has no future at Chester.

But what do you think will change? I'll be honest, I do think Bignot is struggling. I had high hopes for him and it hasn't worked out so far. I think perhaps all of us, Bignot included, underestimated the difficulty of the task. But genuinely, if we sack Bignot tonight, what to you think will change? Do you think a new manager will keep us up, even with so much dross on board that he needs to get off the wage bill, and even less funds to work with as we'd be paying Bignot off. Or would a new manager be with a view to rebuilding next season, in which case, what happens if Manager Number 3 of the season continues to struggle like the two before him? I'm not trying to be flippant. I just honestly don't see what people think sacking the manager would achieve in our current situation, even if you don't rate him? I think perhaps it might be better if we all just accept that this season has been an almighty fuck up and we deal with the fall-out the end of the season, when contracts are up and we can really make a fresh start, albeit probably in the Conference North. I'm with you on this. Write this season off and start from scratch again in the summer, regardless of what's gone on before. With all this mess on the pitch and in the boardroom it makes me think - only Chester could monumentally eff up a chance of a fresh start newco. You could look at Ilkeston, who were reformed the same year as us and have since been dissolved again. Farnborough have been beset with financial woes since reforming and Telford haven't had much joy in recent years. It shows that simply being supporter owned is no guarantee of a smooth ride. But yes, as a big club compared to those three, it's a bit embarrassing that in seven and a half years, we've managed to turn a completely clean slate into this!

You remember when we parted ways with Neil Young because he took the club as far as he could after taking us up from the CN? Well, Bignot is Solihull's version of the same man, plus added hubris. He made a great PowerPoint presentation though, so MM overlooked Graham Barrow. Well done. Erm... Grimsby took Bignot off Solihull...... he was doing well with them at the time, which is why a Football League side came in for him. Why resort to fake news? The fact we came in for him means nothing. Our chairman couldn't pick a good manager if one slapped him in the face. Made one good managerial appointment in 17 years.

May as well stick with him until end of season now unless he offers to resign, we must try and get Graham Barrow back at the club when Bignots gone though ! He may be at Fylde but I still think he would return to us, at least we know GB cares for the club.

Can organise a defensive unit as seen at Ebbsfleet and Fylde away. You've conceded 33 goals in 21 games with the charlatan in charge

Oh FFS Matt you really are a tit and I for one am sick of these MB out threads, the only persons we can blame for this shambles are our own board and JM so you can rule MB out of the equation. Our so called board who care so much about this club kept JM on and allowed him to spend a healthy budget when it was clear to us all things had gone very wrong half way through last season. We sold SH to leicester and that should have made for a healthy budget and our so called caring board allowed JM to spend that budget and HE wasted it, How can you even begin to blame MB for that? he has inherited JM legacy and he has to try and work with what he has and no money. Over the last two seasons our board and the decisions they have made have failed us and they need to be taken to account for them and the money they have wasted, I will judge MB when he has his own budget and assembles his own team that he wants, that might take some time Matt given the stupid contracts that JM handed out. Yeah I am pissed off like all of you but can I hand on heart blame MB sorry no.

We need to start cutting our cloth with Confidence North in mind. Clearly Bignot will not be with us and the majority of the players. We will need to offload Mahon and Hannah who are on 2 year contracts. However, my biggest financial concern is the CEO position. This is no dig AT ALL but surely we can't afford to have a paid employee in this position at that level. It's not nice to say, but I would have thought that we will need to make that position redundant? Such a horrible season this has turned out to be. Interestingly, Southport have just appointed a CEO and made the Chairman role redundant. A chicken and egg situation, given the lack of football expertise of the current board and general lack of anything!! Can we afford not to have a CEO? Talking of Southport has anyone noticed how they've picked up since McCarthy went there. They were second off bottom and are now just below half way with i loss in their last 5 games. I still think he's a tosser but just sayin.

Whilst not blameless I don't recall too many dissenting voices when JM signed the likes Halls, McCoombe, James, Turnbull, Hannah, LRT or the contracts handed out. Looking back this forum was buzzing! Not suggesting for 1 minute that I think it was right to keep JM beyond the end of last season but to say wasted the budget smacks of 100% hindisght. However what is plain to see is Bignot has lost the plot, the dressing room and a lot of the fans. He appears tactically niave and his constant switching of formation is obviously contributing to the confused and disjointed nature of performances. I have no clue having watched the game yesterday WTF his plan was in terms of shape or playing patterns. Just looked a mess from start to finish. For me cut our losses get rid now and depressing as it is formulate a plan to cope with life after relegation.

For me the question is not whether he stays to end of season or not, as has been pointed out there is no mileage in getting rid of him. The question is does he get an opportunity to build his own team?
This I’m completely stuck on, he can sign players on peanuts, which is good, as we’re going to be dead financially. I’m bored of defending his record but we’ll go again, Hornby, Gough, RHJ and archer all improved what we had for next to nothing. Those pointing to bad signings want to include a lad from Wolves who did a job when RHJ was injured after a very good derby performance- oh and 2 goalkeepers and a couple of young strikers again brought in quickly in a crisis.
So I would say, as Grimsby have said, recruitment is his strong point. Given we’ll need an entirely new team (I don’t see anyone bar the kids staying) this opens the door to Bignot.
However, I like many fans are concerned about how we are setup at home. Whether this is down to the crap players I suppose you’d have to look back at his preferred formation at Solihull which was very much his team

It is not the fans job to scout and appraise footballers capabilities for consideration to be signed. We mostly have jobs which we are qualified and experienced to do, and it is the job of a manager to ensure correct appraisal of potential signings is carried out. Don’t blame the fans for not doing a managers job. What if many were happy to initially see the signings? They relied on the manager doing his job. Clearly McCarthy did none of this and wasted a record budget on has been journeymen and the re-signing of carthorses. The man was totally incompetent, had no scouting system in place, and no useful contacts in the game, but we knew that anyway, by and large. For some reason the board ignored all of that. Bignot knew the score when he accepted the job. He has failed to do anything constructive since he arrived, although he has had enough time. I don’t buy into the nonsense of “Let’s see when he assembles his own squad” crap. He was brought in to avoid relegation, not for next season. We needed a hard man, knowledgable about the situation, and who could be relied on to fight to the death and instil the hardworking ethos and guidance into the players. He applied but was rejected. It’s that simple!

I don’t think Bignot is the answer, time to set up for next season release the dead wood which is 95% of the squad also transfer list the 2 year contract wage stealers. tell MB he’s going as soon as the last games done and some how consolidate with the very little wages we’ll be able to offer next season.
Bring in a manager who has plenty of experience with the National/North.

If these rumours about the grave state of our finances are true, dismissing Marcus Bignot should be at the very bottom of our priorities.
If it's going to cost us even a few hundred quid to show him the door, it's just not worth it. We're going down irrespective of the manager, what our focus should be now on is trying to move some of these players on. There's got to be an up and coming, money-bags Yorkshire non league side who'd like seasoned professionals like Kingsley James and Ross Hannah to sign for them!?!

Not really any point in discussing this because there is simply no way we could afford to sack him, or have a board that would be willing to sack him.
Personally I am of the view that we have seen some improvement since he came in, at least in terms of the amount of points per game we are picking up, but I have reservations about his tactics. Can't really comment on the other suggestions such as his attitude with the players as that is all speculation, but I'd rather have someone in charge in these circumstances who is willing to ruffle a few feathers.
As Andy said, the wider question is should he be allowed to stay on if we go down? He has took Solihull up from the National North and I think he would put together a decent team and find some good talents with a budget to spend of his own.
Ultimately though he was interviewed and offered the job on the basis that he would keep us in the league. On that basis alone if we go down then I think we would have to look elsewhere.

Trying to be super optimistic, all bar a couple of our remaining games are against lower half teams in this division- massive 6 pointers. IF the rumours re our finances prove to be unfounded then a change of manager could still be the answer. I don't accept that most of our players are as bad as they currently are, tactics have certainly not played to their strengths. Also any Psychologists out there who could spare a couple of hours this week?
