Saw on Twitter Simon Olorenshaw's post about, "getting back to basics" - focusing on the first team, youth and the community.
Despite the worrying state of affairs at the moment it's worth remembering that we currently do two of those strands extremely well.
When Jon McCarthy took over the Trust he inherited a shoe box stuffed with papers. Our entire community trust in a shoe box! Thanks to him and Jim Green, our Trust is now a source of pride for me - and long may it continue.
The Academy too seems on an upward curve - and you only have to see recent matches, where it is evident that thanks to all the work of Calum and our many voluntary coaches, we are not only just churning players out, but ones who can flourish in our first team and maybe make us some money if they move on.
The problem is that many will see The First Team as the be-all-and-end-all - and our nightmare year has certainly created a toxic atmosphere around the place which we will need to repair.
Take 2010. Probably my favourite time EVER supporting Chester. We all surfed on a wave of euphoria until it deposited us in the Conference. Our Trust was practically none existent and we didn't seem to have the Academy recruits given chances like they are now. But nobody really minded because we were winning.
I don't want to criticise 2010 - as I said, I've never felt so proud to be a Chester fan - but as a 'club', there were things we could have improved.
Our 'club' now still has much to be proud of. It may take a while to get all three facets of the club flourishing, but as a middle aged fan who has seen the club in the most dire or dire straits before,
I wanted to underline that Chester FC still makes me proud even if the first team doesn't perform.
