Think it's actually for breaking the FA's betting rules as he was allegedly aware of odds of 8/1 for him to do what he did. They are ridiculous rules though, as under the rules for example a CFU member (as part-owner of Chester FC) would be breaking FA rules by placing a bet on an Argentinian third division game. I know FCUM advised all of their members to avoid betting on any football activity for the same reason.

Matt Le Tissier would do it all the time, his mates would bet on the ball going out for a throw in, in the first few minutes, and low and behold, he'd knock it out of play for him.
He had obviously told his mates he'd do it, and they've all gone down the bookies asking for the odds.

He did wrong and broke the rules but surely this is a world away from betting syndicates and organised crime? Sounds like he was the salt of the earth and no doubt had to tidy the dressing room after those prima donna Arsenal players (can't find the photo but it looked a disgrace) left. Football is upside down. It's people and humour like Wayne that keeps us loving football and he probably wouldn't have gone anywhere near this if he was paid a decent wage!

If the bookie is stupid enough to give a bet on someone eating a pie ,they deserve all they get . But I bet in real life they are loving the publicity this gives
The fella shouldn't lose his job for this ,how many of you would have done the same???. I would have

It can't be that clear that he broke FA rules, as they've yet to charge him - there's still an investigation going on to see if he did break FA rules or not. Massive loophole in this case for me as FA rules are regards betting on the actual match. This was a novelty bet directed at something off the field, and not football related so be interesting to see the actual outcome.

I don't really understand this humor and blaming his wages thing. First off i'll say to defend Arsenal a bit of rubbish isn't that hard to clean up when they've donated £50k for two new classrooms, no complaints about that disrespect there. Shaw has been a shortsighted idiot and deserves to have lost his job. Someone had cashed out a 6 figure sum on 'Piegate' and whether it's someone he's tipped off we don't know. Point is he's fixed a bet, and told people about it before the game and admitted it on TV! Doesn't get much more compelling that that. He's done wrong, people have made money out of it, whether his wages are £100k a week of £100 it doesn't matter. Blaming his low wages is like saying if you work at a department store and are on minimum wage, start putting your hand in the till. Don't understand this defence of Shaw, he's a moron that's made a rod for his own back. I think his intentions were greedy and he's made a laughing stock out of Sutton United.

Spot on - he's got swept up in the media coverage and made his club and non-league football as a whole look embarrassing. His own fault.

The whole Sun involvement is nauseating though.

He would have got a game today. Sutton's keeper injured early on and no reserve keeper on the bench so the right back is in goal 😂
