The picture breaks up constantly. This Samsung TV is only about 5 years old.
Do I need a new aerial?

Always worked fine before and now breaks up? Always breaks up, or only at certain times?
How is it connected? Directly to rooftop aerial? via a splitter?

An aerial is an aerial, no such thing as a digital one.
Can you try watching something other than Freeview, say a DVD or BBC iPlayer ? This will establish if its a problem with your TV or a reception issue.

I need to establish first if it is the aerial. No point in spending £100+ on a new aerial and finding the problem still exists .... and btw the money I've donated to the club would have more than covered it. Some might say I've got my priorities wrong.

You need to do what i said earlier, that will establish where any potential problems are. Reception or equipment based.

Have you tried turning it on and off again? Yes ,,,,, I've also retuned it several times. As I said before it seems to have corrected itself.
