Colin has been alongside Chester FC since it’s inception; he’s never flinched from supporting and standing up for the Blues culminating in last nights very generous efforts. I would like to propose: Colin Murray - Chester FC Honorary President

Seconded. Not sure if the Duke of Westminster is still holder of that honorary position, but as he has done literally nothing for us in 50 years of me supporting the Blues, whilst Colin has done lots, I think it would make perfect sense, and be a nice thank you to someone who has gone out of his way to help us.

Depends which Duke you are referring to. Bit harsh on the dead one.

Would be nice to see Murray formally recognized. For someone who only took up interest in the club during the reformation he has given us great exposure, and its refreshing to see a prominent media figure showing genuine care and passion for grassroots football. And he seems like a thoroughly decent bloke too.

Forgive my ignorance, buth what is the connection with Murray and Chester? I think he was involved at the beginning because of his friendship with one of the instigators of the new club.

Forgive my ignorance, buth what is the connection with Murray and Chester? The contact with Colin was made through Jeff Banks. Jeff did some amazing work in the early days, through the media, drumming up support and attention for the newly formed club.

The story is Jeff Banks, who was on Board when Club reformed contacted Colin to ask if he could help us in publicising our efforts during reformation. (Think Colin may have been aware of our demise and had taken an interest.) Colin and Jeff since then have become good friends and Jeff is our main contact with Colin. Despite being a big Liverpool fan, Colin champions Non-League and grassroots football a lot both when he was on Talk Sport and writing his weekly column in the Metro. He managed to ‘accidentally’ promote the All Stars match on 5Live’s Fighting Talk last Saturday. He was given a bottle of Champagne last night by match sponor Euan Kellie as a thanks but Colin promptly handed it over to Jeff. It would be lovely to honour him more officially one day but I think he just loves helping when he can and all the banter and doesn’t want any fuss. Just hope he sticks around to see us rise up the league soon!

Thanks. He certainly seems like a top bloke. I stopped listening to Talksport when he left.

I think the relationship started on Murray's Friday night Radio 5 Live football show. I was listening to it and (I think) Jeff Banks was interviewed about the efforts to reform a phoenix club. Murray wished us well and Jeff said that if we were successful we would sign Perry Groves and Pat Nevin (the pundits on the show) as players. They both signed at our first home game but unfortunately never played... Not sure if the relationship goes back any further but sure there is at least one person on here who knows for definite!
