Kingsley James is one of several players whose second spell at Chester has been nowhere near as good as his first, but can you think of any players where it's been the opposite - average in their first spell but much better in their second?
The only one I can think of is Robbie Booth.

To be fair I think when Robbie Booth played for us the 1st time we were, I think, in the Football League and Ruffer was awesome in his first spell (again several divisions higher than when he returnedJ
So I don’t think you’re comparing like for like, as for James of all the ‘high earners’ he is the one I would have kept if only because he’s not injury prone (& has consistently been played out of position to accommodate others)

Could argue Ryan Lowe? I know we were relegated in his second spell, but he still performed to the very top of his abilities. Showed in spells at Bury, in particular, how good a player he was.

John Murphy? Only he and Kingsley James mentioned so far that you can fairly judge considering both spells for each player have come at the same level of the pyramid.

The legend that is John Danby. Class in both spells but two championships in his second spell takes some beating. Top bloke as well.

A shadow of the player he was before he got injured against orient Apparently not, just had a look at his scoring record, 13 league goals in the year he returned from injury, 24 the following year

John Murphy was dreadful his second spell. Agree about Ryan Lowe. He got sent off three times and booked loads in his first spell. In his second spell he upped his goal-scoring and never got sent off or booked.

Grenville Millington, given he played one game as a youngster in his first spell and later returned to become a club legend.

Why did you feel the need to mention his name in here? Can we just forget he ever played for us?

Scored a virtually identical amount of goals in his two spells. The difference was though that it took him three years (including a lengthy spell out injured) to get that many first time around, but seven years in his second spell.

I've never got why people don't like Danby. He broke two records for us I think - longest run of successive games, and longest spell without conceding. Dropped the odd clanger here and there but who didn't? I've always thought he served the club well.

Why did you feel the need to mention his name in here? Can we just forget he ever played for us? Fabulous player Gary was a cloth cutter in a factory, and when he had the chance to be a footballer he took it with both hands Totally committed on the field of play as that poor Sheffield Wednesday player found out to his cost I remember Shrewsbury Town fans slagging him off in a game at the Deva, after scoring against them at there end Gary typically took a bow in front of them Must have wound them up no end Current crop of shite arnt fit to lace his boots

In his first spell he played for weeks/months without getting paid which shows how committed he was. I think I know the reason why Mancot doesn’t like and it isn’t to do with his keeping ability.

Horrible man
