Just thought I'd take a look at the North table and bloody hell Southport just outside the play off places with 5 straight wins. What the hell has gone on there last time I looked they were looking like relegation fodder

They’ve got “But we beat Aldershot” Jon McCarthy as assistant.

I commented on this on another thread. Southport were in a relegation spot when McCarthy joined them but have won their last 6 games scoring 18 goals and as you say, are now just outside the playoffs. After the damage he has done to our club, it would be a real kick in the teeth were he to replace us in the National League next season.

As JB said they have paid a lot of money bringing in players nor on free transfers but they have paid out several hefty transfer fees on players who should be playing at a higher level, I don’t think it’s anything to do with McCarthy personally.

Throwing lots of money at it. However, it won’t be the same for them next year!! Not sure how you can say that it won't be the same next year. The squad are training full time during the day and are on 52 week contracts with all of the key players contracted until at least the end of next season. The squad is already being built for a serious promotion push next season.

This thread prompted me to have a look at their website, its like night and day compared to what we are doing. They've got a positive write up on Southport 70, A club vision day on 20th March, Easter egg donations for families in the area all things that we should be doing as a community club. They really seem to be getting up a head of steam both on and off the pitch.

Whatever they are doing on and off the pitch it is working at the moment, fans 're-energised and re-engaged, hope it lasts for them. They looked down and out and destined for the evostik a few weeks ago but new investment, new Manager and new coach and clever if expensive recruitment has turned things around. We will struggle to compete at least in the short term.
