Question.
I'm looking for info for our attendances since reformation which breaks down our gates into home and away fans attending matches.
I am looking to gain a true figure as to how - on average the attendance of home supporters has fallen over the past few years.
Is there anywhere that breaks this info down?

No idea what breakdown is but everyone keeps saying how good our crowds were in first 3 seasons - it's being overlooked that we had novelty factor of new club syndrome, cheap entrance fees, thrashing teams and we had hundreds of free kids in South stand. Crowds were always going to drop when the success stopped along with price rises !

Just want to do a bit of research into what the true number is of supporters we have lost since reformation. All the averages we have include away supporters coming in through the door and bumping up (in recent years) our average gate.
If that info is publicly available can anyone provide me with a link for it?
Thanks in anticipation

He has a plan, it's in the pipeline.
tbh people have said for years to go ask the general public why don't attend. I believe they call it market research or some daft nonsence. We don't need it as we're A.O.K

Looking at the factors involved with the downturn, of we can understand why gates drop and do a bit of analysis into it then we can implement a staged plan to boost the attendances. Maybe the club would listen more to that? Other than that I really don't know what else to suggest that will make those at the club listen

Steve Mansley's site is the best.We had some gates that were a lot worse than people think in the early days. The average boosted by glory hunters for the important matches. Simple fact is if we were top five now we would be getting bigger normal gates than we did then.

You might have to trawl through the Chester chron website. Might be worth emailing them to see if they have some kind of archiving system you could use.

Average home attendance
2016 - 2199
2015 - 2189
2014 - 2366
2013 - 2582
2012 - 2789
2011 - 2382
Don't know the breakdown of home and away fans, but we won the leagues 3 years in a row crowds and lower ticket prices to average 2300 - 2700
In reality not much has changed in 3 years in the Conf , unless you want to argue about 167 fans and I'm sure a few people will.
Even if the team were in the play off positions I Doubt that it would be much higher because many of the floating fans from the Evo stik days have gone.
For all those people who moan about incentives and the club are not doing enough, get your arse up to the ground and volunteer, attend the fans meetings and put your ideas forward, get from behind the keyboard and do something about. There is a few posts on here lately from Everton's fans telling us to get on with it and support your club.
Not a bad idea, I hope it rubs off.

Doesn't include the number of away fans per game though so it doesn't give a true reflection of paying home fans.

Of course you can, by looking at what records we have we can see how many people turned up to the game. Like with the recent Gateshead gate. The gate of around 2,000 with approx. 3-400 freebies, plus x amount of away fans gives us around 1,4-500 Chester supporters in the ground.
By working out the average of attending 'home' supporters we can then work out our true fall in paying fans. You can't tell me that if we had managed to keep the average 2,000-2,500 that we would be averaging that over the course of the season when we have teams like Tranmere, Wrexham, Southport, etc etc bringing large away followings? Our averages would be boosted even further by these games and we would be looking at hitting that average 3,000 over the course of the season.
It's not about 'sniping' at the club or 'moaning' before anyone starts that non-argument. I am genuinely interested in seeing what our true drop in home 'supoort' has been since our climb up the leagues.

I remember seeing an image of a computer screen in the safety office after the first Chorley game at home which showed the number of people in each stand, and it didn't seem to differentiate between home and away fans in the west stand, so the chances are you'll never get a breakdown of home and away fans from the early years.

Would be interesting to see what the attendance breakdowns were, I wonder if they have been kept in one place.

Have a look at this too - a good one not just for Chester but other teams
www.thelinnets.co.uk/leaguetable.php?l=6&t=1
Click on the past tables tab for previous seasons.
I don't think the away support is ever calculated with any accuracy. I'm sure that when I travel I'm not always counted as I often mingle win the home fans .. or least through one of their turn stiles to start off with. It's a difficult one. Good luck. ZB
