Is anyone seriously, still watching what is going on in our division? Tonight's Barrow v Hartlepool result was a disaster for anyone still possessed with a 'never say die' attitude, the team that had played as many games as us won, the other with games in hand lost. 5 years ago when we thought we had a cats chance in hell, Chester fans would have followed this game on twitter, and debated it,games up isn't it?
I personally spend more time looking at the National North table now than our own, speculating on who i'd prefer to be promoted or relegated. If we won 5 or 6 games on the bounce and survived, I'd be ecstatic, course I would ( for a while at least ) but if we survived due to others financial troubles etc, I'd probably be gutted! Another season of Bordom Wood, Eastli£gh, Bromley, Sutton etc with no money would really twist my melon, to be honest.
So in away looking forward to next season, don't think we'll crash and burn, a few wins will get fans back in the ground, and Stockport, York, Alty, Southport, Kiddy, etc etc sounds like more fun, at the moment anyway!
So promotion and relegation; Salford and Harrogate battling it out at the top, but hope Brackley can steal it and say cherrio, then with the play offs I would prefer Blyth or Spennymoor to progress, but some strong teams thereabouts. At the bottom, furby are gone, Gainsborough looking shaky, and after that losing someone like Boston would be ideal.
Alty or Warrington to come up, and the other or Witton to win the playoffs, Hereford could also come in from the Evo south, could be a hell of a division next year, ok we may well not be the biggest fish financially, but with decent gates for the division, we should be one of the better than average, middle sized fishes!

I came to the conclusion on Boxing Day that we were down. It goes without saying if we could just get a team that could compete there could be some interesting fixtures both home and away next season. I think most of us realise the challenge ahead but bigger crowds means more money into the budget and we can rebuild.

Have to agree - I think next season will be a breath of fresh air compared to this one. I know it will be tough, but we'll certainly be a whole lot more competitive and play some pretty decent fixtures.

My worry is the noises coming out that the budget will be low means we won’t be competitive in the north. And end up doing a north ferriby or Alty and going down again.

I think one thing we have in our favour is that our Academy is producing players who don't look out of place in the Conference, never mind the Northern League - so our reduced budget will at least be able to go a bit further knowing we can supplement our squad with the youngsters.

... Hereford could also come in from the Evo south... Arn't Hereford now in the Evo Stik South, so if they come up (likely) it will be still one division below National North/South? They are doing well, on a similar trajectory than us, yet I think they will not become the same train wreck.

Actually, the academy are producing players, not just as good, but better than the ones we are signing on.

I think most of us realise the challenge ahead but bigger crowds means more money into the budget and we can rebuild. Of course, any relegation will hurt supporters of any club because it categorically shows that, for whatever reason, the team/club were not able to compete over a season (the table doesn't lie). Equally, there are a number of clubs where an initial relegation is the start of a greater decline BUT history shows that many clubs use the setback as an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger. I firmly believe WHEN, not if, we get our act together, we'll firmly fall into the latter category. From a purely selfish point of view, and given the above, I'm quite looking forward to next season. Why? Because, for me, nothing beats being able to wstch your team LIVE on a Saturday wherever it might be rather than relying on the interweb etc. This season for many logistical and personal reasons, away days have been seriously limited. Next year, I'll be able to watch far more away games. We had some crackers as we came up!

I agree with this. We have a great Academy and it should be used next season with our current situation.

Would guess they'll be in the South especially if 3 Northern Clubs go down. (Us, Guisley & Barrow) but maybe Brackley will be moved?

Yes the North/South teams are decided in the summer, based on all 44 clubs' locations.

Hereford is fractionally North of Brackley, so they (Brackley) are sure to move if they don't get promoted and Hereford and/or King's Lynn or Kettering (both considerably further North and likely to contest the Evostick South playoffs) get promoted.
Next season's North league is shaping up to be very exciting with some really decent fixtures. I am sick of 5 season playing the likes of FGR, Dover, Bromley, Boreham Wood, Eastleigh, Woking etc. and am looking forward to the Stockport, FCUM, Southport, Alty/Warrington, plus Darlo, York, Kiddie - it's going to be a good competitive league. A lot less travelling, so should be some good followings at away games too.
We'll also hopefully have a young hungry squad who can grow together and put the pride back in the club.

Spot on. In a strange way I am looking forward to relegation, for want of a better phrase. Also the club's finances could do with it really.

This thread is remarkably upbeat and positive about next year which makes pleasant reading. Its a disaster from my point of view as its unlikely I will get to see them next year unless we get a southern draw in the first round of the FA Cup however hopefully we will regroup and come back better and stronger

I'm looking forward to life in the north too. I've been to all the southern based teams in this league except Sutton and Boreham Wood and the only wins I've seen are Woking 5 years ago, Aldershot 3 years ago and Torquay last season. Less travelling and friendlier folk hopefully.

Can’t see beyond a relegation skirmish and sub 1500 attendances next season.

Out of interest . . . what is the best site for news, results, scorers, attendances etc for Conference North?
