I've just been online to try to register my car for this £2 crossing charge and it's impossible without pre-paying a £35 charge (£5 registration and £30 presumably for 15 crossings). God knows how anyone (elderly) manages that are not even basic computer literate as I am.
I'm registered with Dartford Crossing and whenever we play down that way (Dover) the £2 charge just automatically comes out of my account.
I'm going to have to find a way of travelling to St Helens without using this new bridge.
Btw you cannot pay on the day as there are no toll booths. Anyone used it yet?

I paid it off fine online, just one simple payment after I entered my cars details.

I joined it (the £35 you are referring to) as we go to Speke Airport a few times a year. If you apply for what they call a "sticker account" you get 30p off each crossing. Each crossing deducts from your original £30 and you can top up your account on line. Just appeared to me to be a lot easier than messing about trying to pay by phone for each crossing.
However I get what you are saying about the Dartford Crossing where you register and then it charges your card. I suppose the problem with that system may be expired cards, people not changing card details if they change card provider etc.
Oh and by the way, I am elderly!!

One thing we have discovered about the new bridge, coming back, once you get to end of the bridge there is a distinct lack of “Chester/North Wales signs!

I went to St Helens last Friday travelling up the M6 to avoid this bridge. I should have come off at the M62 but missed the 21a exit. I eventually got to my destination but must have done 65-70 miles instead of 40. We went into Liverpool later and I decided to come home via the Birkenhead Tunnel. I set my navigation, but eventually realised that I was travelling towards Widnes. I did the journey over the new bridge and paid on the phone just using the keypad on Saturday morning. It was easy enough, but the whole day was very stressful. I later phoned Merseyflow and asked that now they had my details could I just be charged whenever I cross and they said no, I had to pay separately every time. It's the same company that operates Dartford Crossing but not as simple, as I believe that if I make a Dartford Crossing now it will just be charged automatically. As we're now in the Conference North that's unlikely for a while.

Came back from Speke Airport the other night and would agree with you regarding the signage. We just kept following M56 signs and eventually Chester came up on a sign. With regard to cost even though they said £1.70 with a sticker account they deducted £1.80 from our account!!
