So after “that” podcast last night, I wanted to do some number crunching.
Kirby said that the playing budget will be £250,000, which also includes Kingsley James’, Ross Hannah’s, Matty Waters’, Craig Mahon’s and Jordan Archer’s contracts.
As we know, KJ and RH are on £800 a week contracts so that’s approximately 58 weeks x £800 = £46,400. Times this by 2 and that’s £92,800. With the other 3 players what are we estimating, another £70,000 on top (minimum)?
Good luck creating a squad with a playing budget of £90,000 left (maximum). IF there is £90,000 left, we need to find a further 12 players on an average of considerably less than £200 week.
Let’s hope Kingsley and Ross decide to move on. Just can’t see how Chester are going to survive next season.

No one on here believes 1700 is the Right number to set our budget to? All you want to do is say I'm negative. See no evil, her no evil, speak no evil is that you?

But the constant dig dig dig at the board is counterproductive, we have no one to replace them if they walk unless you know someone.

1700 average attendance is totally unrealistic. This isn’t about being negative it’s being realistic. Better to set a budget based on 1200/1400 and if we look like exceeding this release further funds. I still think we should look at a part-time model at least for next season

We really need to pressure the board into reconsidering this, and the upcoming meeting is a good chance to do it.

I take my hat off to the board members for giving up there time. As I know these positions are full time, and some. My fear is the death of our club. Our club won't die because we have a small fan base. It will disappear because our budget is set for unrealistic crowds forecasts. I'm not sure how people will react if we run out off money again?

I still think we should look at a part-time model at least for next season The problem in budgeting for 1200, is that we won't have a team. The 500 lower figure reduces the budget by around £100k. Based on 500 X £10 X 21 matches. That gives us a budget of £150k. North Ferriby had £100k apparently. Hannah and James take out £92k if the original post is correct. Add in Archer, Waters, Mahon. Nothing left. I agree 1700 is ambitious. I'd go 1500 to start with. Problem with that is you're likely signing worse players. That reduces the crowd again. How can you stay full time based on these figures?

If the investment comes off that may blow all our concerns out of the water, let’s keep our fingers crossed.

If we have more investment will that change the budget for 18/19? If so, should we sign players before we know what the budget is? Sign a bunch of cheap players and then find we might have got better, had we waited.

Our ability to get a side together rests almost entirely on getting rid of James and Hannah. James we might be able to get rid of if Barrow stay up. But I can see Hannah being more difficult based on his wage and age. IF we can get rid of both then we might be able to build a spine to a team, but it's still a massive ask. If James and Hannah can't be shifted then we're screwed. You'd have the lads on the 2yr deals and then kids, non contracts and free loans again.

I do agree with others that 1700 seems extremely ambitious given how many numpties don't want to go cus they don't like the pies, right back, colour of the grass etc but to have any chance of competing the budget needs to be somewhere around the 250 k Mark. The managerial decision is key as is whether we can get rid of those on executive two year contracts. I'm also lumping Archer in with those. I mean, if he can't start ahead of Harry White then we have serious problems!

Investment would obviously change things, but as it stands we have to look to part time football or next season really could be a disaster.
How many part time clubs are currently in the North?

This is because the published attendance figures do not include season ticket holders who do not turn up and I am sure is has been stated that the 1700 figure is 900 season tickets and 800 pay on the gate. I think season ticket turn up rates are between 80% to 85%.
What we do need is more information about the budget assumptions being made as a hue and cry over the 1700 figure is not helping anyone. Also some things are not settled yet in terms of who we will be playing next season as promotion for Stockport and relegation for FC United could easily take 100 off any calculations.

I think overheads are substantially more than most of us would expect and then add on to that the burning of money paying maguire JM and MB somewhere in the region of a grand a week. Half a dozen players on several hundred pounds a week. Budgeted crowds down by an average of 400 and it all adds up to football suicide.

The football wage bill was just under £40k per month this season, based on £450 annual budget. The turnover is double that, based on the latest annual accounts. That's another £40k per month.

You may be right there. It's the 800 pay on the gate figure that worries me. That is the floating, variable cash flow. If we start badly, which is fairly likely, that will soon reduce.

Season ticket sales are hugely important. But at least you know early on what they are going to be like and can presumably adjust recruitment accordingly to match income. It's the pay on the gate income that can vary hugely depending on performances and must admit I'm hugely concerned if we're banking on an average of 800. I don't think you can set a firm budget until you know what teams are going to be in NL North. Big difference between playing Stockport and Brackley

At least with season ticket sales you'll get a good idea of the level of sales by the end of any price increase or seat reservation deadline. We'd know by end of June. You can react early. Walk ups you only know on the day of the game. You could be going broke for months before it happens. Look at this season. It's like a slow acting poison.

At the risk of sounding 'do you not even want a club?!' if we cannot get 900 of our most dedicated fans to buy season tickets then we really do have a problem moving forward. Better away attendances provided a few key teams stay up/down should make 1700 achievable. I appreciate there's alot of doom and gloom out there at the moment but new seasons always bring fresh impetus and optimism.

Average attendances in the National League North this season. No offence but if Salford (on the back of a wave of publicity and being top of the league) don't average 1,700 then what makes you think you would?
1: Stockport County 3,157 2: York City 2,825 3: FC United 1,842 4: Salford City 1,640 5: Darlington 1,511 6: Kidderminster 1,506 7: Chorley: 1,115 8: AFC Telford 1,102 9: Harrogate Town 1,099 10: Boston United 1,022 11: Southport 956 12: Spennymoor 895 13: Blyth Spartans 880 14: Tamworth 779 15: Leamington 658 16: Nuneaton Town 638 17: Gainsborough 578 18: Alfreton Town 541 19: Bradford PA 524 20: Brackley Town 515 21: Curzon Ashton 418 22: North Ferriby 308
