Probably didn’t make it clear but I agree, Most people probably seen Mconville as a standard conference player, I personally thought he was quality. Goalscoring midfielders and assists, think he got over over 10 goals and 10 assists, that’s so hard to come by at this level, Reminded me of Frank Lampard the way he was always in the right place in the right time. Spot on. He also kept the ball very well. Nothing flashy, but able to work the ball out of tight situations and lay it off. Most of our players this season treat the ball like a hot potato and it gets stuck under their feet. There are quite a few Chester fans that know very little about football, and expected McConville to be putting in Roy Keane tackles, tracking back to help full backs and scoring goals. To put it simply, he got goals and assists whilst being a neat and tidy footballer......I’d sacrifice a bollock to have a proper footballer like him now. Interesting looking at the thread when Accrington signed him. Most seemed to think we'd done very well out of the deal, and in fact you said you thought John Rooney was a better player, Si!

Well worth a read that thread, if only to see how we all judge players so differently. Wonder if we will be scratching our heads over Dawson in a year or two? Anyone know if we did get a sell on clause on McConville? Yet another oversight if not. Should be part of the deal for any player in future.

It’s possible he was just a bit mercurial, had good games & bad & settled more when he moved on. Happens all the time. I don’t remember him ever being particularly impressive.

After reading that I wondered what's happened to Rimmersring?

Accrington won 4-0 yesterday away at 3rd placed Wycombe. Sean McConville, Offrande Zanzala and an incredible volley from Scott Brown amongst the scorers.

I liked Rooney! To be fair, they weren’t compatible as a midfield paring and getting a bit of money for one of them at the time didn’t seem so bad.

The state of some of those comments. Fair play lads, stick to FM. What's wrong with these comments? On old DC. Dismissing McConnville, saying John Rooney and George Thomson were better players. McConnville will be a League One player next season, 3 tiers above Rooney and Thomson. Like I said, stick to FM lads

Hindsight's such a luxury. McConville is great in a side that's doing well. When we had those poor runs in what turned out to be our best season at this level, he went missing. When we played well, he played well. If he'd played this season, he'd have been hated more than Dawson and trust me, that's saying something. Fair play to him though, he's done brilliantly. Yes, it’s easy to ridicule people with hindsight, but he wasn’t brilliant for us by any stretch of the imagination. He was OK, perhaps under appreciated, but his career had stalled and we weren’t the only club to fail to get as much out of him as Accrington have.

The state of some of those comments. Fair play lads, stick to FM. That patronising comment would only hold any weight whatsoever if you were involved in the profession as a manager, coach, scout etc. As you are very clearly not, you must see how it comes across as a bit embarrassing on your behalf? Rooney was a better player than him that season. I don't know if the statistics back it up, but I think it pretty clear at the time. Delighted for Sean though, he always gave it his all here and good luck to him.

no he was class. as cfc fans we have never really excepted ball playing midfielders for some reason unless they are lads coming through from the youth team. cfc fans want to see a midfielder smashing into tackles and wining towering headers but theres more to football than that.if i remember right he got 10 goals and 10 assists what would we give for that now .

I think it just proves again that some of our fans on here especially, couldn't recognise a decent footballer for the life of them. I mean, remember the clamour for signing Jamie Reed on the old forum? That turned out well didn't it...

'mused' comment still stands true - "Scored goals, made assists - that's a fact that can't be argued but went missing far too much. And his performances at Alty and wrexham were beyond woeful." I think thats fair.
But what of Scott Brown, surely this is the better story?
