I had to leave Wednesday’s meeting just as the floor was trying to extract an answer from Calvin about the reasons for the timing of Bignot’s sacking. Can anyone tell me if we got anywhere with that, as I haven’t heard anything?
It was a bold and surprising decision to dismiss Marcus when we did, and I just would have thought there would at least be some sort of robust argument someone could put forward about why the decision was made. It feels a bit like they just didn’t really think it through and only realised afterwards that they might have made a mistake.
For a major decision like that, I feel it’s quite disrespectful to just shrug your shoulders and say “well maybe we got it wrong” or “it was a board decision”. I think they owe us a bit more of an explanation than that as it’s a move that seemed at best unnecessary, at worst spiteful. I’m not saying we have to agree with the decision, but I’d at least like to know what the though process was behind this seemingly illogical move.
There’s no doubt the fans were a bit divided on Bignot, but I think we fell into three camps - those who thought he was useless and should’ve gone months ago, those who thought his job was impossible and he should be kept on for next season, and those who simply thought we should let his contract run out and start next season with someone new. What I don’t think any of us thought is that we should sack him after relegation was confirmed, with three meaningless games to go, even though he was leaving anyway. I can help but feel that if the board are doing things that none of the fans want, supporter ownership is failing us, or rather we are failing it.

Calvin admitted that they got it wrong, but that's not really enough. I wasn't a fan of MB, but he deserved better than that. Apparently they tried phoning x 3 to sack him over the phone, but he was probably driving to the Youth Cup S/F and rightly never answered his phone whilst driving. Sacking him over the phone would not really have done it either. I feel he's wasted a year of his career coming to us and allegedly not being given the full details of our dour financial position. He tried his best with no money, but didn't improve us; in return we've damaged his reputation.

Not to sack him on the phone.

They’ve admitted they got the manner of his sacking wrong, but what I’m more after is why they decided to sack him at that particular time, when he was going in a few weeks anyway? Was it because of something he said? Did they have someone else in mind to bring in? What have they gained from doing this that makes the negatively publicity it’s generated worthwhile?

They have been getting a move on with the application process and might even have a new manager in the building for the last game of the season, although probably won't take charge of the game. It gives the new manager the whole summer to plan for the new season, it will give a chance to build a squad and maybe have an input in strategies like part time/full time etc. I don't like how Bignot was sacked at all, but I suppose giving the new manager as much preparation time as possible for the new season isn't a bad idea.

Agree, but that could all have been done without dismissing Bignot. We knew he was going at the end of the season anyway, so it wouldn't have been working behind his back. If necessary, could they not have sat Marcus down and come to a gentlemen's agreement that he left a little earlier? It just feels awful and unnecessary that terms like 'sacked' and 'dismissed' have been used. I don't think the club has made any friends in the football management community by behaving like this.

The MB sacking together with the news of possible investment, the youth lads reaching the final all coincided with the release of next seasons ST prices maybe in order to get a flyer for ST sales, however the manner of the dismissal has probably had an adverse impact. AGL, How can someone giving an opinion damage the club anymore? It obviously doesn't need any further help in that department, its the only thing that they seem to get right!!

But by then we were showing no signs of improvement since he took over. You do realise he was appointed in September? What were results like between then and January? You remember Kidderminster, Dagenham, Guisley and Halifax games? When he had the full Squad he inherited plus his own additions available? As ive said before the financial problems surfaced well into his tenure are not an excuse to hide behind.

Calvin admitted that they got it wrong, If I remember right at the meeting Calvin said the manner in which it was communicated was wrong, not the decision. the decision was to allow a better communication of the vacancy. The HR chap (Andrew? )I think said in his bit one or two applications when it was announced MB contract not extended. Then a whole load more when he was officially finished and more again when the vacancy was advertised. So no matter how it was done it was the right thing?

Sacking him in the car park was a poor show. On this I think we all agree. However, it has allowed us to get a move on with finding a new manager. By the sounds of it that was the board's plan. They just somehow seem to make a cats bum of it all.

I think that after the heartbreaking editorial in this week's NLP nothing could make our reputation worse - and that is why that editorial that rightly lambasted our club and those responsible for that unnecessary and unforgivable act was so upsetting because it was true and the criticism against us was entirely justified. I never would have believed that we would have fallen so low in terms if behavior like that, but I know now that whatever these 'business men' say about themselves and their 'skill sets' I will never, ever trust Calvin and the Debt Collector again and I will be voting against them at the very first opportunity I get in the next set of elections.
