I really hope the Board are seriously looking how to ensure we keep Calum. Those that know him know that the hours and personal commitment he puts in over and above this job far out way what he is paid for. No doubt some on the Board may say we can replace anyone but Calums do not grow on trees! To replace Calum, his skills, his passion and his wholehearted commitment would be impossible for us on our budget at the moment. Going part time does seriously worry me in this respect and I would like to see the Board reassure us ASAP and not make us wait until the next CFU meeting on 5June to get some answers. Our Academy is our golden egg we need to protect it and more importantly we need to protect Calum. Agreed. While no one person is bigger than the club, the Boards stance regarding Calum will give an indication as to the ambition, or lack of, for the future. Securing Calum's future here is more important than the signing of any player.

The reduced ability to recruit top players for the academy with a part-time first team is likely to be a killer. The best youth players (and those younger) will want a club where there is the chance to progress to a full time contract.

What Calum and his volunteer colleagues have built over the past few years is fantastic. Having achieved so much this year it is going to be difficult at our level to provide the challenge and opportunities that this talented guy needs to further develop. Love him to stay, and I am sure he is loyal and money is not the only issue, but we should not stand in his way to advance his skills and career. He needs to learn and prove himself at a higher level now and who knows one day he may return to successfully manage the first team.

What Calum and his support staff have achieved to date is nothing short of miraculous. The project is pretty much self funding it seems via sponsorships and subscriptions. I'm led to believe that the cash injection from the club itself is minimal. Taking this in to consideration the success the academy has had is I'd hazard a guess unsurpassed anywhere.
Thinking ahead if we are to secure Calum's services he needs to be remunerated appropriately as a priority. Penny pinching cannot be a cause for the club failing to retain him. Speaking candidly if Wrexham can afford to pay £32k a year to their academy head seeing nothing much in return then it's seems unthinkable that we wouldn't be able to get close to that to keep him here. The board need to stop procrastinating and get the deal done, signed sealed and delivered.
Every time I see the youngsters play I am mightly impressed by their enthusiasm, energy and appeared willingness to run through brick walls for Calum and his staff. That can't just happen by accident and I would suggest it's the attitude, culture and desire cultivated by Calum that is the driving force behind this.
I urge the board to act quickly and decisively to sort out Calum's future before they do anything else.

I think we need to be really careful in taking advantage of Calum's obvious love for the club by keeping him on a low salary. The much publicised 125k+ that was received for Sam Hughes shows the financial way in which Calum has repaid the club. The scholarship program will surely generate revenue for the club that should surely be reinvested back to the academy.
35k for example is not a lot of money to run the whole academy, assist with the first team and run the 18s and scholars. Quite a few academy managers will have an 18s coach under him, not assist with the first team and will be way less hands on.
If Swettenhams chemists pulls out then I guess we lose him straight away unless the club is protected to move in if that happens. How many of them players are here due to Calum bringing them and would move with him.
The other point I want to make is how long are the coaches below him going to continue receiving nothing for what they do. They will be held in high regard with what they are doing. Stuart Murphy mentioned about putting money in that creates revenue for the club. Is this not one of those things?
Lets hope we can protect our clubs future and the players of the future

From CFU OWS - The board of City Fans United would like to place on record it’s congratulations to the Chester FC Youth Academy.
In what has been a fantastic season of achievements, we would like to pay tribute to everyone involved with the Academy, who have all played a magnificent part in delivering success.
This season has seen seven first team debuts for Academy Graduates. Both James Jones and Tom Crawford have earned international honours with England C, Nathan Brown’s solo effort against Bromley was voted the club’s goal of the season with Alex Downes, Matthew Thomson, Rhain Hellawell and Cain Noble all featuring in the first team. Cain Noble became the youngest player to represent the club since reformation and marked the occasion with a headed goal in front of the Harry McNally terrace.
To have five trophies to show for their hard work and dedication this season is a seriously impressive effort, especially when you consider that on a great number of occasions this season their opponents have been at an older age.
Whilst not wishing to single any one person out, we feel it would be remiss of us to not mention the achievements of Calum McIntyre, who as well as masterminding the Youth teams to their successes, also took on the additional responsibility of first team manager for the last three games of the season, culminating in a fully deserved 2-1 win at Barrow.
CFU Director with Youth portfolio Mike Day said: “I had the privilege of travelling with this seasons Youth team scholars last summer on the annual Scotland trip. The team spirit developed in just those few days both on and off the pitch made us realise that this season was going to be something special.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be even a small part of our Youth setup and see those early promising signs develop into much deserved success.
The whole Youth Academy at Chester FC is certainly something to take great pride in, and seeing so many of the youngsters breaking through into the first team shows just how much effort has been put in to making this a real success.
We would like to thank Calum, all of the coaches across the various age groups, and of course the parents who play a major part in the development of the players involved.
Finally, congratulations to all of the players involved in the Academy, all of whom deserve all the plaudits for their successes this season.
The board of City Fans United

I really wish people on here would stop turning rumour or fear into fact ! Have a bit of faith ffs !
The Academy and younger players progress is a credit to Callum who has done an amazing job!
Do you not think our Club knows that ?
Do you not think that Stuart Murphy's intentions to get £2 back for each £1he invests is exactly that ?
Have faith and stop moaning and spreading doubt ?
All you'll do is wind off Callum and potential recruits so well done !

Anyone heard anything on this from the club? The lack of any kind of news has to be a concern given we going to be into June this week.

I'm starting to think the OP did this deliberately to wind the fans up and in turn pressure the club into giving him a better contract.
It worked. Bravo!
Now, I'll give you my employers details so you can contact them next yeah?
