I usually pay around £250-£260 for car insurance. My renewal quote was £325 so I cancelled and went on Go Compare. The cheapest is around £320. I've not had a claim for 9 years, so why has it jumped up so much. Any ideas? I'm 68 tomorrow.

Just ring whoever you are insured with up and tell them your unhappy with the quote and you have found cheaper elsewhere. They usually lower the price.

Thanks for your reply Paulie.
My friend here said try Compare the Market.com which I duly did and actually found one that was only £239, which was nearly £20 cheaper than last year and 2 for 1 cinema tickets as well.

There's all sorts of things you can do to get your quote down too, lower your annual mileage to next to nothing, say it will be stored in a garage overnight etc, I see you are also 68, so I suspect you may be retired, don't tick that box, or the one that says unemployed, put your job description down as what you used to do, they don't know you have retired and if ever asked, you still work but only occasionally. You can also put an experienced driver on your insurance, (Son, daughter etc) they may never drive your car, but it will bring your premium down.

I'm too honest, although I did say 10,000 miles this year when it's more likely to be 13 to 14,000. Thanks eyeswideopen
