If you look at the big clubs generally in this country there’s lots of rumours in the local and national press about who they’re going to sign/sell etc.
However, at Chester it seems that our local press just announce things at the same time as the club. This isn’t aimed as criticism at Dave Powell or anyone else I’m just wondering if anyone knows why it’s different?

Firstly, the audience for big clubs is much bigger and naturally there are more rumours and gossip spread about top clubs and players than there are about us, so they have much more to report on.
Secondly, at a club like ours, the relationship between the club and the local media needs to be a lot closer knit. Chester FC and the Chronicle need to support each other. If Dave splashed every rumour he heard all over the paper, he’d soon sour relationships between himself and the club.

The difference is that national press is very competitive so have to go for their scoop through any rumour they can find . We have enough rumours on DC and Twitter so I am happy that we can trust what Dave Powell (and Charlie/Neil) reports & tweets and they do give us teasers on Twitter if news is about to break. I think Dave particularly does a brilliant job and we will really miss him if one day he moves on.

We had board members recently calling out the Chron reporter in the public meeting - who had to retort he was just doing his job.
Then we had Croasdale deleting tweets and apologising.
The real issues will come in a couple of years time when our 'local' news is run from Liverpool and Oxford, if it is not already.
