I am hoping that this will be made available to CFU members by email upon request?
I am unable to attend the CFU meeting due to a work commitment, but really want to know how this was allowed to happen to such a degree that it is possible that we will still be paying wages until May 2019 (of total £100k plus) to players that haven't been first team regulars since Nov 2017. On a budget of £250k?
I would also like the audit to explain what, if any, involvement agents had with the above players and if we paid fees then how much?
Whilst backing the manager(s) and the first team is key to our business, to do it at the risk of the death of our club is gross incompetence at best. At worst it was gambling the family silver on a failing manager that had no track record of success, just because he was likeable. Therefore I guess most importantly we need to know what checks and balances are in place to stop this happening again?

The big question for me is how was the playing budget increased by 80K when there was a loss of 12K the previous year, a year which included income of 77K from the sale of Hughes. |

Agree largely with Lobster, need to learn what went wrong and move on, and if necessary put measures in place to prevent repeat. We don't need a witch hunt, but hey ho some will want one!!

He may have been nice with his players and training was seemingly Jon's Easy Street, but as soon as results turned so did his communications with fans. A man seemingly so arrogant that he believed he was beyond question. He took absolutely no ownership of what was unfolding, and steering us to a truly embarrassing home record - no apologies whatever, and increasingly dined off the famous run of clean sheets which was a long time ago. There were no apologies from him, and the press conferences showed an increasingly strange bloke, culminating the bizarre Croasdale rant accusing him of having an agenda against the club. It was a merely a case of a journalist asking some questions that his job demanded, given the awful run of results. To me, he showed very little respect to the people paying his wages. Perhaps he was a top bloke, but the pressure completely cracked him up. I'd never question his work ethic as on the surface of things it did look like he gave it his all, but he was found to be extremely out of his depth as a manager. But hey, remember Aldershot  I'd welcome the report being published this week, get it out of the way before pre season and we can all hopefully draw a line under it, learn from it, and move on. It absolutely needed to happen - as a fans owned club its imperative we learn from things we've done wrong in the past, and failing to understand how we got into a position where we almost lost our club would have been burying our heads in the sand. |

The club was almost put out of business through a series of catastrophic decisions and an almost total desertion of financial responsibility. In answer to your questions: 1). What are people hoping to learn from the review? I think people are hoping to learn just how exactly the club was allowed to get into such a perilous situation without the memberships knowledge and whether the governance procedures in place to prevent that scenario were either fit for purpose, or followed appropriately. 2). What do people expect to happen as a result? I would expect that the club would NEVER be put into such a position again and that the club's governance procedures are strengthened such to the point whereby that is no longer possible. -------------------------------------- This is about sensible business practice. We aren't just a football club, we're a pretty big business. Any respectable business has a policy of learning from its experiences and its mistakes - the first stage in that process is to acknowledge precisely what mistakes were made, who was responsible for them and how they were allowed to happen. Unearthing those answers requires a review. I am astonished that some people aren't interested in this. |

We're not just talking about the club hiring a caterer that doesn't do pies to 90% of the fanbase's satisfaction. The board were the only ones who couldn't see what McCarthy was and ignored the repeated pleas of fellow owners who knew better. They then put the club at risk in an effort to put right the mistakes the rest of us predicted. We weren't advised of this until it was almost too late. It's totally right the whole mess is explored and that owners are assured it won't happen again - because it really can't. |

I still remember his little rant on Twitter one night making an accusation at a board member without any evidence whatsoever, at a time when emotions were running high, we were going down, and still not sure if we would financially last the season.
I've still yet to see any remorse shown by that person for that damaging rant.

I’ve just read the whole of this thread and at no stage does any of the posters put any blame at the feet of Shark Quagmire.
I’m unsure who it was that said “The most dangerous thing in life is an incompetent person that has been given a gun and a law enforcement badge.” We as a club, must never give out more ‘guns and badges’ as this would almost certainly be the end.
It is to be hoped that Richard in his delivery pulls no punches and shows Quagmire and Jonboy for what they really were, but as stated by others, our committee have to take their share of the blame throughout this whole debacle and promise not to give a clown too many balls to juggle in future!

I think I’m just not as desperate as some others are to hear the ins and outs. I agree that some awful mistakes were made that shouldn’t happen again, but it’s a different board now, and the incompetent CEO has gone. I understand some people need closure and accountability so the review probably is necessary, but personally I’m not waiting with baited breath, and I doubt it will tell us anything we didn’t already know or could have guessed at.

If the point of the review was simply to name and shame I'd agree but that isn't the case, indeed when announcing it Mr Olorenshaw made it clear that "this would not be a witch hunt but learning from mistakes". I suspect it will probably boil down to either a lack of procedure coupled with necessary checks and balances built in, or a systematic lack of any enforcement. This is not the first club to employ an overpowering CEO and a less than satisfactory manager, this is not the first football club's board to be in the thrall of its CEO and it is not the first club whose apathetic absentee co-owners did nothing but at best tut tut from the sidelines. How many members resolutions submitted in seven years? I've admitted it's clichéd but it is still true, as co-owners - you get the club you deserve. |

I raised a few questions at the time...but it was told by some on here that decisions should be left to the board. One issue was going full time. I am pretty sure that it cost us dearly and a decision so big should have been put to the members. That is something that should have been learnt...is it not?

Get this right and our grand kids might have a team to support. Get it wrong and we're on borrowed time. |

Just to reinforce NWAS’ post that I hope the report will be made available to CFU members unable to attend on Thursday or listen online which includes me (work commitment) and I suspect a number of Exiles. Mustn’t ignore the fact too the clash with the England friendly too. Hopefully the presence of our management team will be a big enough draw on the night! Just sorry to miss this one.

I would have liked to have seen the report made available before the CFU meeting to give members chance to read through it and prepare any questions or contributions.
Hope the presentation of the report doesn't result in a quick going over of events and glossing over huge errors made by certain individuals.

A legitimate point raised though - Neil Young was forced out of the club because the football working group (not just Calvin) decided they wanted the club to remain full-time, going against Neil's knowledge and advice. Turns out we ended up going part-time anyway. One thing we as a fanbase should have learnt from the whole debacle of the last few months is that we need to be asking the tough questions, even in the good times - there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, asking these sort of tough questions is vitally important in ensuring transparency and accountability. |
