What's the latest on his contract offer? The longer it goes without any news the more I fear we will lose a great potential future money making player.

As long as he's involved with the Jamie Vardy Academy, and the amount of league scouts present at these things, I imagine he's holding off signing anything.
I'd be surprised if he isn't getting offers from league teams anyway, best of luck to him.
Much like Crawford, I didn't and wouldn't expect to see him resigning for us for this coming season.

Shrewsbury would be a good shout for him. They're good at developing players from down the pyramid, he's from that way and Askey is their new manager.

Yeah it's very unlikely he'll be back at chester, unfortunately.

He would have really benefited from a season of regular football with us. He did pretty well for us last season but was still very raw and has some bad habits that would eventually go if he was playing against men every week. He's not as promising a prospect as Crawford IMO, who had that awareness and touch of class to suggest he has the core abilities to play higher up. Jones is one that certainly has the potential but needs regular football, and needs to be careful where he goes as I don't think playing reserve team football against kids is the right step for him. Perhaps there could be an agreement for him to be loaned back to us.

When you make direct comparisons between him and Sam Hughes, or even Heneghan, he a long way off from there. I think he'll go on to make a solid conference defender - possibly League 2 at a push, but I'd be surprised if he went much higher. I do agree that Crawford is the bigger loss of the two, but wish JJ well whatever he decides is next.

Whoever signs him will have to engage Chester. He was offered a contract, is u21 and has been with the club for 4 or 5 years development so there will be a fee due.

Personally I feel that as above James has got a lot of growing to do on his mental side of the game. He switches off and makes mistakes. I feel another year at Chester alongside an old head like Howson would see him a much better player and get him a better move in the long term. Taking him to the Vardy market and hawking him round smacks of poor advice from his agent.

Most young players attract them when they play for first teams, and certainly when they get international recognition.

I would have thought James Jones should stay with us for this season in a strong looking back 4 now Smalley has signed. (Just need a left back)
But can't blame him if he goes up to a FL club. Don't think he has the potential of Crawford and defenders often don;t get the chances of others as their mistakes are more costly.
