...are no more. Their investor has pulled the plug and nobody else has come forward to take over. I think a youth side will compete next season but there will be no senior team.
That FA Cup 3rd round game against Mansfield earlier this season must now feel a long time ago for their fans.
Yet more evidence of the gamble you take when you totally depend on a backer for survival.

The guy is a nutjob, he's walking away and folding the senior side of the club all because the fa won't allow him to put Barnsley in the new team name

Reminds me of Colne FC about 25 years ago. They sped up the leagues and were about to enter the Conference, but their ground wasn't up to scratch, so rather than do the necessary work the owner just pulled the plug.
On the positive side a proper team might get a reprieve.

I remember when they were promoted from Step 5 they were known as Shaw Lane Aquaforce, but they were told they couldn't have a company name in their title. Could it be that the FA are at fault here?

Clubs shouldn’t just be allowed to change their name willy-nilly. They should have to present a strong case for it. Why do they want to do it? Why are they moving away from their roots? What can they give back to Barnsley? Have they consulted their local council and Barnsley FC?
I don’t think think anyone will mourn the loss of this lot. A club set up as a marketing tool for a plumbing business. All these clubs do is clog up the leagues and stunt the progress of better clubs with fans, history, modern budgets and a hard work ethic.
