The sooner Conference Officials introduce financial fair play the better, its madness that clubs can lose hundreds of thousands of pounds a season on tiny crowds. Forest Green are millions in debt and lost 2.9million last season, Barrow lost nearly a million last season too, I foresee lots of phoenix clubs in the future ! Nearly every team in the league is losing vast amounts every week, we have done exceptionally well to compete and only lose 20k (expected loss).

You don't half like reminding us of this! You could call it a demise, or you could call it overspending and irregular finances. They hadn't paid bills, had signed players and managers they couldn't afford, and had run up £1.3m in debt. All this to finish marginally ahead of us, a club who had cut our cloth accordingly, on goal difference. We were pretty rubbish that season and it wasn't the best way to stay up, but had Hereford played by the rules I think it's fair to say we would've finished above them. We stayed up on merit that season in my opinion. Goodness, I find myself agreeing with Lobster. I think maybe you and I have just got to stick to football!

Not sure it should be the league that looks at this but inland revenue and whoever looks after company law. I'd guess some of the losses disappear against the profits of a parent company or other finacial artistry so become a tax avoidance issue. I also though it was illegal for directors to continue trading in an insolvent company

I think we can pick up 16 - 17 points from remaining games and finish 10th, a better season than last two and something to build on.

That's a very fair point .i hadn't looked at it that way but yes if they went bankrupt by braking financial rules, then yes you should have been reinstated . By the way I gutted you went down because I think a local rivalry is brilliant . See you next season .

Beginning to hate Devachat. Infested with pessimistic idiots who seem to think we're a Sunday league team who should be relegated. Just shut up. I've seen enough of us this season to say we will finish mid-table. Oh wait we're on a bad run, that means we will permanently be bad now? More accurately it's infested with goat-supporting knobs pretending to be Chester fans, and also infested with deluded pricks who hanker for the days of private ownership. Oh well.... should be easy to spot them.

Telling those you don't agree with to "shut up" and throwing your toys out of the pram about this forum? The point of a forum is to discuss and debate with differing opinions. For what it's worth, before the season I would've expected us to finish 17th. Now, thanks to the overall excellent first half of the season, I'm going with 14th - which is a little above our level so can be deemed a success. In fact, I'd take mid-table mediocrity for the next couple of seasons because, as a part-time club with a small squad of youngsters and an average attendances creeping 2,000, maintaining a position in the middle of a league with increasing numbers of bigger clubs and the odd smaller generously benefacted club, we would be punching above our weight.

We've had a great season with some amazing moments, people need to lighten up on here, I'm sick of seeing so much negativity in what has been a good season. We win and it's quiet on here with crazy comments like we've been lucky this season, when we lose this forum is manic! Positivity needed, there's a lack of it round here...

Form can change. Not saying it will, but no reason to think we're going to be crap for the rest of the season. None of the home games look particularly terrifying.Really: Which ones of Barrow, Macclesfield, BorehamWood, Eastleigh, Woking and York City do you think we'll win. Even bottom 4 Woking have won the last 6 games against us. On a serious note, why do you watch us? I'm all for calling a spade a spade and accepting we have limitations, but we can win ALL of those games. If you don't believe we can, you must have a really miserable outlook on life. This repetitive, ongoing negativity on here is really tedious. We've made leaps this year and if you can't see that, I personally can't understand what you get out of supporting this club. Each to their own, I suppose.

I am a Chester FC addict and have been since the age of 9. I've tried to give it up and failed. We know we're shite, but you either try to ease the pain by moaning about it or you pretend that it's actually quite good. If you're neither of the above then you haven't got the Blues in your blood. The moaning, I guess, is to just received affirmation from like minded fans.

I agree with that. I am 30 years of age and have been a Chester fan for about 23 of those years and have become accustomed to having a negative, cynical outlook on life as a whole. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Unbelievable how despairing some of our fans are. We were flirting with the play-offs not so long ago and still we are in a healthy position, yet the moaners still linger. Just have some optimism for once and have a think of how well we have been competing in this league. I'm really proud of what we have achieved this season and I'm sure others are, but I hate reading the same old rubbish from the same old posters who must love us underachieving. This is a club who have punched above their weights this season, and we all should be proud. flirting with the play offs? We will never get in the play offs,we've punched above our weight? We're an ex league club playing in a pi##poor league on gates of 2000 plus, we should be in the top ten of this league all day long with ease, and again we will finish bottom half this season, it's no wonder people are sick of watching us Ex league club? Really?

Boring. Give if a rest FFS or buggar off back to your own forum. Exactly. Would the poster find it necessary to make the same point to fans of Halifax, Hereford etc if they described themselves as "ex-league"? I very much doubt it.

We yeah, that is my response. I'm telling it like it is. There's a few goats on here having a bit of fun and who can blame them they've been invited in because the forum is open. Still knobs though. And then there's the people who hate fan ownership. And see it is an impediment to their fun on a Saturday. Last time I looked though there's about 85 non-fan owned clubs in the top four divisions and you know what some of them privately owned clubs have to finish in the relegation places every season and a load more also have less than optimum seasons. We're fine as we are. There is a lot to celebrate.

currently 11th with 46 points in the bag, think were very fortuanate to already have these as were a poor team in a poor league, realistically see us ending the season 16th/17th with around 54 points, what do people think? just seen an old thread i started, how optimistic was i ?, i'll have another go, 52 points, 19th

52 points and relegated in 20th place by a huge home defeat and York winning by a large margin. McCarthy still claiming that it's been a successful season and nobody should be questioning what he's done, because the only complaints come from a tiny minority who don't go to the matches anyway.
