Tomorrow evening we play our first away game of pre-season as we travel to Ramsbottom United where Bern and Jonno’s success started. Although I really enjoyed Saturday’s match, it was a very tough test for our lads so I expect tomorrow’s game to be a bit more realistic. Still though, there were positives to take from Saturday as we looked quite solid until Liverpool scored in the 40th minute. Manchester-based Ramsbottom play 2 divisions below us in the Evo-Stik Division One West so it should be a relatively easier game.
In my opinion it will be best to judge our players based on our upcoming friendlies with smaller clubs, rather than Liverpool. Come On You Blues! Score: Ramsbottom United 0-2 Chester FC (Mahon, Hughes) Attendance: 456 (112 Chester) COYB!

Assuming it is the Ramsbottom first team against our Salford and Ramsbottom reserves then Ramsbottom should walk it.

Just up the road for me, as long as it’s an improvement on Saturday’s scoreline I’ll be happy 😁

Half time Ramsbottom United 0-0 Chester FC. It seems quite a cagey game so far, although we’ve seemed to dominate the last 5-10 minutes. Hopefully we can find the net in the second half. COYB!

Full time Ramsbottom United 0-1 Chester FC. It sounded like a decent workout for our lads tonight and it’s nice to get our first win in the Bern and Jonno era. We seemed to be the more dominant side and deserved that win which is a positive going into another away game on Saturday.

I would say Ramsbottom had the better chances in the first half although we had majority of possession. I think we need a left winger in as we weren’t using that channel much and John Pritchard kept having to push forward. Defence a little shakey at times but some of the youngsters impressed especially due with their small stature. Also we definitely need more strikers as we didn’t test their goalie as much as I would have liked

The trialists have not been named by the club for a reason. If we splash their names all over this forum and social media, it defeats the object.
Maybe ask someone for a PM if you really need to know.

Simon Grand, now there’s a name from the past - 34 years old and done more clubs than Bernard Manning. Tough nut who knows the ropes!

Spoke to a Fylde fan last night who said he’s susceptible to a mistake sometimes but a good defender and should be starting for us if we were to sign him. Played 35-40 games in the National League for Fylde last season so a decent signing at NLN level even at 34.

Our Defender trialist played well but the 2 up top were poor imo
Decent run out for our first team against a good Ramsbottom side pitch was not the greatest however was a nice ground
Dunno what was wrong with Roberts but seemed not at the game and got frustrated a lot when things never went his way
if given a chance Iwan Murray could be the 1 to watch this season looked lively when coming on

He’s played iro 450 games at a good level and even at 33 years old, Fylde saw fit to sign him from Salford and use him regular last season, in what was a really good solid season. He was well thought of as a twenty year old; remember him with Rochdale and Carlisle and as stated, never frightened of a tackle, also scores half a dozen headers a season as well.

Anyone know if Simon Grand takes pens? has an awful lot of goals for a defender including 9 in one season for Salford and 28 in his last 6 full seasons.

John Pritchard took both of our penalties last night. Simon Grand seems to be a threat from corners as I believe that he’s scored a lot of headers in his career.

I know Pritchard took both our pens, it makes sense to give pens to the player that's definitely going to be at the club this season. 9 league goals for Salford in one season means a goal every 4 matches roughly, that's a ridiculous return.
