A Chester FC XI make a very short trip to Cairns Crescent tomorrow evening as we take on Blacon Youth. Although the team who played against Chester Nomads was made up of youth team players, I believe that some first team players and academy graduates will be involved tomorrow.
Blacon are another side who play in the West Cheshire League but they will still be tough opposition. Come On You Blues! Score: Blacon Youth 1-1 Chester FC XI (Murray) Attendance: 218 (112 Chester FC XI) COYB!

Am I hallucinating with the hot sun or do we really have a forecast thread for a game against Blacon Youth?

Probably a good opportunity to brush up on the excellent Academy pathway - let's hope the first team managers are in attendance to see if any of these kids could make the grade over the next couple of years. Yes, we need experienced non league war horses and they're bringing in players that they know can hit the ground running but we also need to continue the production line of the Sam Hughes', Ryan Hedges' and Tom Crawford's. This game will be a good opportunity to see how our boys do against men.

Blacon YC is the club name is it not? Not age-restricted.

They play in the Mid Cheshire league, Rio. Very good team at that level as proven over several years of clearing up most seasons. Average age is about 26 so they're not old men. Great test for BY tomorrow and one they're excited about. They want a big crowd supporting both teams.

They was in it for years to be fair. Couple of seasons back they was struggling for players so left - the Blacon Thistle team (including Gary, Lloyd Ellams and a few others) then moved to BY. Cleared up everything in the local Saturday leagues and moved onto the Cheshire League last season gaining promotion at the first attempt. The club has ambitions to reach North West Counties level and keen to raise as much as possible with games like this. Hopefully they can attract a decent crowd willing to throw a few quid in the buckets tonight. It won't be from a lack of trying so if any blues need a fix get down there and support both community clubs tonight.

Enjoyable game tonight. Great turnout, I hope Blacon Youth raised a nice sum. Great club.
A good battle, got feisty but game was played in the right spirit.
The triallist (number 7) didn't give a great account of himself. I believe he has league experience.
Gary Roberts bossed the game, and looked fitter than at any point last season, which is great news for us.
Hellawell and Noble the standouts for us, really hope they get their opportunity in 1st team next season. I like Marsh Hughes up front, big lad with plenty of running in him.
Brilliant to see Johnson and Morley there.

Blacon mistakes gifted Chester a couple of goals but overall a good test in terms of positioning and fitness. Luke Jones didn't look out of place against Gary or the other CM. Class act. Great turnout and a decent amount raised I believe.

In fact, everyone who played should be proud of their performance. I agree, silly mistakes gifted Chester in the first half. Looked very nervy, but a different team in the second. Blacon midfield two were excellent. Defenders did great against some very quick lads, keeper made a couple of great saves too.

Brilliant to see Johnson and Morley there. I haven’t seen Noble do badly yet, impressed me every time I see him. Possibly not the most naturally talented but the most likely to make it of the first year scholars IMO. He’s not scared of playing against much more experienced opposition, good on the ball, winds the opposition up & chucks in some big tackles. Glad to hear he did well again tonight. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s off to a FL club next summer.

Looks like 4-3-3 is the preferred formation so I suspect we're looking at having six central midfielders. We've currently got four "senior" and Cain Noble by my reckoning.

Watched a few Salford match highlights whilst binge-watching George Green and every game Bern and Jonno played a 4-3-3 with Green infront of two centre mids, probably Burton and Roberts/Stopforth.

In that case we probably need a front 3 then. The 2 wide players will need to drop in, then make 'out to in' runs to support the striker. Not sure we've the players to do that. Particularly if we expect them to score goals too.

With budget tightening, I'd have thought we will sign 2 strikers tops - trialist A from Runcorn maybe and one maybe on loan? I'd expect us to play 4-5-1 with the two wider players (Mahon / Hughes possibly) supporting. Green may also play in the number 10 role? Good to catch up the other night, thought Marsh-Hughes showed well again.

As Danny says, Green will likely play as a 10. That should help a lot. I posted elsewhere that i thought we needed a Wilde and a Sarc in this team. He could be the Sarc. Marsh-Hughes looks a real prospect. Just hope he develops as he could. Not quite sure who is stalking who here, but I'll likely be at the CFU tonight. Not sure about Llandudno yet. Will be at the Bury game. That should help you plan your time!
