Morning all, just a reminder that it's the latest City Fans United meeting tomorrow evening in the Blues bar.
The meeting gets underway at 7.30pm and prior to this at 6.30pm there is the opportunity for anyone considering standing for election to the board in the upcoming AGM, to have a chat with existing board members to run through what the role entails, and also to answer any questions you may have about being in the role.
Jim Green will also be our guest speaker tomorrow night, providing an update on the work that the Community Trust are undertaking at present.
If you're not currently a member of CFU then you can sign up tomorrow night in the Blues bar. Annual membership is at present just £12 although any extra donation you wish to put in is of course welcomed and very much appreciated.
Just a reminder also that Tom Jones is of course singing down at the Roodee tomorrow night too, and there may be traffic diversions or extra traffic in the area due to this.
See you tomorrow night.
Jeff

Sadly I live away from Chester and so am not in a position to stand for election, however I was looking on the CFU website which states that each year there are at least three spaces to the board available. Do board members stand for a cset amount of time, or could the board just get bigger every year? i.e. there are 10 board members at the moment, 3 more elected this year, 3 next year etc...before long there could be 20 board members. I ask out of genuine curiosity, not from any negative point of view.

I ask out of genuine curiosity, not from any negative point of view. Board members are elected for 3 year terms. Co-opted board members must seek election at the AGM following their co-option. There are going to be 5 places on the board up for election in September. Both Calvin Hughes and Jeff Banks were co-opted so will need to be elected to continue in their roles, whilst there are also 2 vacant positions on the board because of the resignations of Mark Howell and Simon Ollerenshaw. On top of that, Laurence Kirby has reached the end of his 3 year term so will also have to stand for re-election should he wish to continue. It is really important that people stand for the board, particularly at this election with five spaces up for grabs. Otherwise, there will just be an affirmative vote held if there aren't enough candidates which will probably result in unpopular board members (not naming names) sneaking back onto the board through the back door.

Thanks. That all makes sense. Wish there was more I could do but as I'm about 3 hours away it's difficult

Could we spend a few hundred on a good camera? It would have so many uses - pre/post match interviews, player reveals, streaming meetings etc. Please take it as constructive criticism but surely we can do better than an iPhone camera for things like interviews.

Jeff - apologies for posting this commment rather than emailing you personally as it is partially my fault as I am currently very busy and not had as much time as normal to trawl round Twitter, Devachat etc to catch up on things.
However, I think that the communication about tonight's CFU meeting was very poor. For those of us who normally join the meeting via the streaming get a regular email to remind us with the link. As far as I can establish no email was sent to explain that things were changing. It was only because I found your tweet that reminded me that the CFU meeting was on and when I tried the link into the You Tube channel I failed to find the meeting. Do I have to register on the YouTube channel for instance???
It does frustrate me that it is assumed that we are all in tune with what's going on and are constantly reading Twitter etc.
When things change we do need a bit of a pre-warning and more instructions as to how to access things. We all lead busy lives and I must admit I need to do other things tonight and have abandoned the CFU meeting however much I love Chester FC!

I watched the live stream and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jim Green came across really well whilst speaking about various Community Trust initiatives including a new marquee, Junior Blues area and a ‘Blues Briefing’ tabloid which is to be released next week. It will be a 4-page newspaper containing Chester FC news which is initially going to be published 3 or 4 times a year. 10,000 copies are going to be printed for the first issue so that they can be distributed to various shops across our city and surrounding areas, businesses and households. The first issue looks really impressive and in my opinion this is a fantastic way to promote our football club to our local area.
Bern and Jonno both delivered a Q and A which went down really well with everybody who attended. It was nice to see a close bond between them and our supporters as the way they conducted themselves, and their body language in particular, shows that they are bringing together a lot of positivity.
All in all, it was a relaxing meeting and I’m looking forward to watching these initiatives coming to fruition. Hopefully future meetings can be streamed on YouTube too as I find it being an easier service for members and non-members to watch on without any financial costs.

The good thing about it being on YouTube is that if you missed the meeting, as I did, you can watch it from the beginning later on. Very impressed

Hi RIo for someone such as I stranded in Solihull. Could you Possibly advise on the questions asked and answers given by our new joint managers. Be grateful for any info you can provide. Here are some I have picked out: Q: ‘’Are you happy with your preparations ahead of the first game?’’ A: ‘’Yes, we are happy. The lads have settled down together but we have still got some areas to finalise signings-wise. If you ask us this question in a week’s time then yes, we will be happy and ready to go’’. Q: ‘’Are you looking to bring in a back-up goalkeeper?’’ A: ‘’We have had a lad who has trained with us every day since we started and has been on the bench for pre-season games. However, we don’t want to be paying wages out to goalkeeper’s who sit on the bench every week, whereas we could use that money up to strengthen another position. If it does come to a stage that Shents (Grant Shenton) picks up a knock then we have contacts where we can sort out an emergency loan with a higher level club. We have lads in our team who could step in if Shents gets sent off or picks up an injury.’’ Q: ‘’Have you found a 30-goal-a-season striker yet?’’ A: ‘’We have... but he plays for Tottenham. We won the league last season even though our top scorer scored 17 goals. Years ago most teams used to have about 2 30-goal-a-season strikers, but now it’s harder to find them with more advanced networks. Also, football nowadays is really unpredictable as one season someone can score 30 goals then the next they could under-perform, but we’re trying our best and hopefully we can bring in the right people.’’ Q: ‘’Is the lad on trial in your plans ahead of this season?’’ A: ‘’ He’s done really well but he’s only come into get his fitness levels back up. Still though, we may consider him as we’ve been impressed.’’ Q: ‘’Who assesses players and how?’’ A: ‘’We have a couple of volunteers working with us this year who will deal with phone calls etc. They won’t always get everything right, but if they can get one star out of 10 then that will really help us out. When we can get to games we can get to games’’. (Alan Tarbuck then offered his help on behalf of the FPA about members getting around to local games in the area to look out for players. If this goes ahead then I’m sure that this will help out loads with the FPA having over 150 members. Brilliant gesture by Alan!)

Appreciate the club putting on something to release season tickets but do we really need a third QandA with the managers inside two months next week?

Appreciate the club putting on something to release season tickets but do we really need a third QandA with the managers inside two months next week? Is that a first? A complaint about too much communication. Brilliant. Personally want to hear as much as possible from the managers at this crucial stage when they are assembling a squad and we are all on tenterhooks re new signings, preparations etc.

Some of the questions asked on that YouTube vid were pretty pathetic and it seems to be the same old people doing the asking. How about some new blood asking questions that the managers can actually give a good answer for?
"Are the Turner twins still playing for harrogate town?"
FFS the managers aren't Google...
Get your phone out and do some research before wasting their time eh

Thought most of the questions and answers given were well put and relevant covering areas such as recruitment, balance of the squad, scouting, formation. The question about Turner twins was relevant feedback from the floor as the discussion at that point was about lack of cover at full back.
