We play the second of our 2 games in the space of 20 hours tomorrow afternoon as we host Bury. This should be a good physical test for us as our recent friendlies have been against lower league sides. Bury got relegated from League One to League Two last season so they will be hoping to mount a play-off push. This friendly will see a couple of familiar faces return to Deva who are Ryan Lowe and Jordan Archer. Of course, Ryan had a successful spell here 10 years ago so I’m sure that he will receive a decent reception, whilst Jordan returns having only signed for Bury last week. He was one of a few players who could come out of last season with any sort of respect as he always tried his best despite the circumstances. I tip him to have a bright career in the game as I hope he can play regular football at Bury.
With us playing away at Llandudno this evening, I expect tomorrow’s starting line-up to be stronger than tonight’s although I believe that everybody will play a part in both games. Also, as our defence is becoming stronger by the minute, it will be interesting to see what sort of formations are put out etc. Hopefully we can come out of these two matches without any injury worries. Come On City! Score: Chester FC 0-2 Bury Attendance: 955 (258 Bury) COYB!

It’s going to be a tough test against a Bury side who have had two draws against strong Liverpool and Everton sides should be interesting to see how we cope.

Not sure what reception the Vaughan apologist will receive. He'll get a rousing cheer from me. Anyway didn't Banksy explain on here that he's not a Vaughan apologist? One of my favourite players of the modern era.

Got no issue with Ryan Lowe. If someone was bunging me a nice wedge to play football then I’d probably be nice about my employer too. He was a great player for us and seems to have a genuine affinity for the club, I wish him all the best at Bury.

If asked in an interview about your boss, your going to be nice regardless of what you really think! Especially if it meant not getting paid. He was a great player for us I bet he could still do a job at our level now to be honest!!

No issue with Ryan either. At the time he had a young child, or one on the way, and a mortgage to pay.
He turned up to watch one of our first ever pre-season games at Heswall, with his young lad. Also a story that he wanted to sign for us a couple of seasons back, but McCarthy didn't want him and signed Richards instead.

Doesn't deserve any stick. Gave his all to the club that employed him.

HT 0-0. Chances for both sides but Bury have gone the closest hitting the post twice.

I was happy with that we looked solid in the main against a team 3 leagues above us, get the forwards we are after and I think we are in for good season

Hadn't got a clue who half the player's were as no names on the shirts. Really looking forward to the new season as we looked a good hard solid outfit.

An enjoyable game with the defence and midfield very strong. It augurs well for the new season IF we can get a couple of decent strikers.as we offer very little upfront.

Looks like a combatatuve team has been assembled. Played 5-4-1. With Moran Howson and Grand at centre backs, which looked solid. Gary Roberts had a good game in midfield. As did the left back Pritchard and Mooney, on the wing. Light up front and definately need a big targetman. But, actually showed a lot of fight and commitment.

I was pleased with how we performed this afternoon. Bury deserved the victory, but we made life hard for them at times. Our midfield in particular was aggressive, hard-working and pressed them really well whilst creating some chances which unfortunately couldn’t be taken due to Bury’s tough defence. John Pritchard, Simon Grand and Jon Moran all had good games and dealt with Bury’s goal threat effectively.
However, as we all know, we just need to capture two or three more strikers who can really have a good go at opposing defences. We created a few openings today, but no-one could take them up and really have a go at goal. I’m delighted with how our squad is shaping up now; it’s just our forward line that needs bolstering before we can really get excited about this season.

My first pre season match today and I thought we looked combative and gritty. The shape of the team still needs work but was really impressed with Mooney who covered plenty of grass and has a decent touch. Howson, Burton and Grand will win plenty of ball and hopefully a fit George Green will create along side Stopforth and Roberts.Dom Smally and John Pritchard worked tirelessly and both did well. Grant Shenton made some fine saves and looked assured. Our season should be very interesting if we can bring in the firepower to go with what we already have.

So, did anybody have a go at Ryan today, or did emotional intelligence win the day? Gave him some abuse from the H, nothing physical though.

He looked extremely fit and slim in his grey tracksuit.
At one point he shouted a right bollocking to their GK when he dropped the ball out of play from a clearance.
