I was happy with that we looked solid in the main against a team 3 leagues above us, get the forwards we are after and I think we are in for good season And so say the fans of a few thousand other clubs!

I would have liked to have seen a bit more creativity in the side but I think I saw more fight today than I saw for the whole of last season.
Solid enough but I continue to worry about goals.

Anybody know where craig mahon was today A wedding Why do I feel this just about sums up Mahon's commitment? Has barely played for two years, is fighting for his place in the team pre-season and with two weeks to go he's off to a wedding.

I'd say it says more about the managers, the football club is there to get the best out of the players for the fans, it's not a prison

We're a part-time club - what if it was Stopforth or Moran and they were called into their day jobs? Players are human with other commitments from time to time and Mahony's loyalty to our club is on absolutely no doubt. He's our longest serving player.

Personally,I think Mahon will be behind Mooney and Hughes in the pecking order, because they are more direct and have more pace.

Thought we played well with glimpses of a talented midfield keen to drive on. However we are suspect to attacks down the wings. Our Wing backs are good going forward but both struggle to get back or get covered. Trialist A not for me.Reminds me of Drew Broughton !!!

Would prefer a 4-3-2-1/4-3-3 to the 3-5-2/3-4-3 we played yesterday to be honest. Get Mooney/Mahon/Hughes wide with Green behind the striker. But hey, Bern and Jonno are the ones paid to make those calls so who I am to suggest what to do

The Mahon love-in continues I see? His performances and commitment have been a disgrace for the past two years. He should be busting a gut to get in this team. Sooner he is moved on the better. We might be part time, it might not be a prison etc - but if you had the past two seasons Mahon had you would be desperate to prove yourself. I believe he was dreadful at Runcorn so his last performance hardly set a standard.

How committed can you be when you're injured for most of th season?

The mystery injury......even MB stated that only Mahon himself could know when he was fit as medical science couldn't prove/disprove it. Everything about him wreaks of a snowflake which is just the type of player Big Jon loved. He is the last remnant of that era and the sooner he is shifted on the better as we now have players who are willing to play for the shirt, whether they have a bit of bruising or not.

The era is in the past, why don't you try leaving it there instead of going round in circles and blowing your top when a player misses a pre season friendly to attend a really important event. How did you feel when delph flew home from the world cup for the birth of his child? Bet you were fuming

It was a mistake for a player who has missed so many games to be given a 2-year contract last season. Fortunately he's the only remnant of the Maguire/McCarthy catastrophe that remains. He's hardly had a decent game since the Barnsley cup game. Let's hope he can contribute something in what I hope is his last season here.

A fit Craig Mahon runs this league. I wouldn’t miss my sisters wedding for a pre-season friendly either. I think this has been blown well out of proportion. If he has a good season it’ll be the same people begging us to sign him on an extension for next year, he’s been a loyal secant to us and it’s just unfortunate he’s had so many injury woes. I like the bloke he seems to enjoy playing for Chester and that’s what I want from our players. There will be no lack of commitment this season that’s for sure.

Unfortuately, he is no longer capable of running this league. He has barely had a good game for 2 seasons.

The end result is always missing despite lots of nice little dribbles.
Not even a handful of goals in last 2 seasons.

I didn’t go to the World Cup final so your logic says I have no right to an opinion of the referee?

Says he who didn't bother going to the match and got his report third hand! By that logic people who don’t go to a match have no right to an opinion. I didn’t go to the World Cup final so your logic says I have no right to an opinion of the referee? Everyone is allowed an opinion. However, some opinions can have more weight. An eye witness is likely more valid than someone with a second or third hand story. The footie phone in on Radio Merseyside had a great one a few years back. Some old bloke came on slagging off a player. He was rubbish. Kept giving the ball away. Didn't try at all. No effort. Always out of position etc etc. Radio host asked him if he went to the game. Bloke replied "no, listened to it on the radio"! We all have opinions on players. Sometimes though, we see things tinged by what we expect to see, or what we're used to seeing. Bloke who sits in front of me, picks on a player early in the season then just slags him off each week, regardless of how he's actually playing. When he's not playing he finds another.
