Tomorrow evening we host another League Two side as Morecambe make the trip to the Deva from Lancashire. I thought that we coped really well on Saturday against Bury, and our midfield in particular stood out for me. Morecambe almost got relegated to the dreaded National league last season but survived on the last day. They will be tipped to struggle again, whilst they have been unable to host any friendlies at the Globe Arena as their pitch isn’t holding up well.
This fixture will see Kevin Ellison return as he is still banging in the goals despite being 39 so he should get a healthy reception. Also, this friendly will provide us with another difficult test which will hopefully prepare us well for this season. Come On You Blues! Score: Chester FC (Hughes) 1-2 Morecambe Attendance: 515 (90 Morecambe) COYB!

What a model professional Kevin Ellison is. Still pulling the boots on at 39. Scored some smashing goals last season too. Doffs cap in admiration!

Hard to believe it's been 14 years since we first signed him. What a 4 months that was, he scored some unbelievable goals then Vaughan pocketed 100k out of him. His 2nd spell with Partridge on the other wing showed more promise but again at Christmas Vaughan's antics took over once more. Such a shame as looking back we've had some right teams over the years.

90? Christ they’ll have about 20 max, can’t even get 1,000 at home some games. Awful support they’ve got.

Really enjoyed that tonight. I thought we fully deserved the draw and could (should) even have won it at the end. Shame to see Burton hobble off in the first half and Roberts was fairly anonymous when he came on to replace him. First half was pretty much all Morecambe but we caused real problems from set pieces. Second half was a breath of fresh air - we came out on the front foot and seemed to have an extra half yard of pace. Pritchard was MOM for me - constantly available down the left and was able to beat his man and put quality balls into the box a number of times. Trialist A did ok, not really in the game. Trialist C came on 2nd half and was a prescence with some nice touches. Roberts far more in the game 2nd half. Our defence looked solid and organised all night, if a little deep first half. On that showing Im quietly optimistic for the season ahead - Morecambe were slick first half but we stayed in the game and showed real character. Wont make Saturday but Id urge all who havent been to preseason yet to go down and get behind the lads - some of the football is the best Iv seen in the last 5 years and its refreshing to see such a high work rate and desire which has been sadly lacking.

What a great game of Football that was tonight, great character, great hunger, great tempo, great performance against a good organised League 2 side every player (including subs) put in a shift. John Pritchard was the pick tonight and I wouldn't be too disappointed if we got both of the Trialist Strikers (1st half) Smalley and the No. 9 (I won't ask who he was because it will open up a can of worms on here) both ran their socks off. Feeling quite positive after watching 3 years of crap.

We were slow out of the blocks but grew in to it and finished strongly. Like the look of them on my first viewing. It’s grated on me for the past few years that we dawdle around a bit and play in front of teams but these lads look like proper grafters who aren’t going to hang about like that.
Pritchard was great bombing down the left particularly in the second half and looks as if he has a good delivery. Moran looks comfortable on the ball as does Mooney who has a touch of class. Matty Hughes was busy when he came on as well.
Enjoyable friendly that.

Pretty much agree with that. After sitting too deep and letting Morecambe have too much time in the first half, I didn’t feel too optimistic. Second half was a different game especially when Matty Hughes, Mahon and Trialist C came on. I would like to have seen ‘C’ brought into the game more as every touch he had was good. Shame I can’t make it Saturday as I fly back to Norway on Thursday.

Good game that for a friendly, was combatative too which was a nice surprise. I was impressed with the overall performance and also some really solid displays from the likes of Howson, Stopforth, Smalley, Moran with Pritchard MoM for me. In comparison to last season this team seems to want to fight for the ball when needed, yes we had a couple of dodgy moments at the back but nothing like last season. I’m hopeful for the season on that performance but we really need the final piece(s) of the jigsaw with a couple of strikers. It’s a friendly so can’t read too much into it but looking at the attitudes it feels there is a really combatative edge, higher fitness levels, a togetherness and a will to win. Looking good!

A very good game and a well deserved draw against a highly useful Morecambe side. Good tempo pace and commitment. Personally, I thought we played a lot better when Matty Hughes and trialist E went upfront. Thought the 2 lads who played upfront, in the first half were too static. Also, rhought Keven Ellson at 39, had an excellent game.

Thought Ellison was the stand out player tonight did not look 39 more like a younger Ellison I sat next to Kevin’s wife in the stand , she was very complementary about our club and said she used to love comming here while he was at Chester. As for the game I really enjoyed it and look forward to the season, bring it on.

A fantastic game of football this evening, especially for a friendly. I was particularly impressed with our courage and determination after coming from behind twice. If this fixture had taken place last season, our heads would’ve dropped immediately, but it’s much more refreshing to see our new squad fighting for the cause.
In the first half we didn’t play too badly, but I thought that we dropped deep too many times. We also made a few defensive errors, although I’m sure we’ll learn from them as pre-season is all about improving and learning as a squad. We had a couple of chances ourselves as did Morecambe, who seemed to be fractionally stronger. However, I was happy with how we responded to Morecambe’s opener as we found the net straight away, despite missing a penalty earlier.
On the other hand, our second half display was much more entertaining and exciting. It was a complete contrast to the first period as we broke up play much more frequently and were causing problems in Morecambe’s half. Gary Roberts in particular was energetic and made a couple of strong tackles which got us all going. John Pritchard was excellent going forward, and we improved a lot after Matty Hughes and Mahon came on. Again, we can take plenty of positives out of our last two games; both against tough opponents. We have more than matched both Morecambe and Bury and we are beginning to look like a really strong side. It’s still early days yet but I’d say we have had a successful pre-season campaign... so far.

Some bloke sat next to me moaned all match and stormed out with 20 to go. He said ‘this lot are worse than last year, no system, no pace etc! Could not belief it. I saw more endeavour in the first 10 mins than the whole of last year. Strength and commitment was evident, not perfect but only first couple of games for a new squad. We need a Wildey figure to score but looking forward to this season. One thing no one wil he taking us as a soft touch this year!

Regarding Green, think he got a slight knock in the warm up on Saturday, Jonno was asked about it later in the interview after the OWS stopped filming. Full interview is on Dee 106.3's twitter feed.

First view of the "new look" Chester last night and I was impressed. Pretty well everything has been said earlier but just thought there was more cohesion and "spirit" than we ever saw last season. Looks like crosses and set piece delivery into the box will be a key aspect of our approach this year - entertaining in their own right but, if we can lay our hands on a Wilde-type striker as has been suggested by others on here, the goals will flow and most (not all, of course) will be happy.
Genuinely looking forward to the real start to the season

Couldn't get to the mat h last night but listened in on seals live. I liked Pritchard against ramsbottom but thought he was a little quiet and also missed a penalty. From what the commentary was saying seemed like he had a poor game and kept giving the wall away and missed another pen

Most people's view is that Pritchard was one of the major contenders for MoM last night! He's really good going forwards and can cross a ball.

Very strange! Pritchard was great. There were some moments where he tried to do too much, but by and large he was a very dangerous player, with some fantastic crosses. A real positive for me.
I though Gary Roberts played well and Mahon, Hughes and Trialist C looked dangerous, as we more than edged the last 20 mins.
Enjoyable performance - if we get a decent centre forward, we will be a very good side at that level.

Roberts ended up taking the penalty from Pritchard and also a keen Matty Hughes. Scored 2 missed 1 saved 1 for Pritchard pens so far so think Roberts or Green might be on penalty duty this season
