Hi all,
I recently moved up to Chester from Coventry through work and in the few months I've been living in this great city, I don't feel like I've done enough to get to know the place or the people. I've seen you've got FCUM at home on Saturday, so was thinking of popping down to watch (my now local) team and wondered what the craic is in terms of pubs before the game, what stand to sit in etc? Any tips would be great.
To give some background on me, I follow Coventry City home and away and managed to do 10-15 home and 14 away games last year, (sad I know, I count) despite moving up here.
My club, a bit like yours (although I don't know your background that well) has been mired with financial trouble which rumbles on to this day, despite last year being the best season I've had following us. It got that bad in recent years, that we even moved out of the Ricoh Arena (with the aim of distressing the Council owners to sell it us on the cheap) and moved to Northampton for 18 months, which was without a doubt the worst experience I've had in football - even more so than witnessing us relegated from the Premier League at Villa Park as a 9 year old...
I follow England Away a bit as well, starting before the Euros and often see a couple of Chester FC flags knocking about but I've never bumped into who owns them...
I hope you boys manage to get promoted back up this season, your new managers have a good track record and there's no way you should be a league below the sheep boys.
Any advice for Saturday would be great, thanks.
Up the Seals. Pusb.

Just to make sure you're aware, we're not 100% sure the game on Saturday will be on at this stage as the control room is flooded. Should be, hopefully.
In terms of pubs, there's the Blues Bar at the ground, which is decent if a little crowded when we get a reasonable gate. Have a couple in there, but if you want to make a day of it there are really no pubs near the Deva, so you're best off having a drink in the city centre and then either getting the number 10 bus to the top of Bumpers lane, or walking the 2 miles or so to the ground.
The best atmosphere is normally behind the goal in the Harry McNally Terrace, which is standing. Some pockets of the East (Red Insure) Stand like C Block and H Block can be noisy. The West (Swettenhams Chemist) Stand is normally seen as the family stand, but I imagine FCUM will bring a few hundred and will be in the far end of that stand.
Hope you enjoy the day if you do come along. Our start to the season has been mental and we've no idea what's going to happen!

Welcome to Chester! Pubs are a distant a way from the ground although there is the blues bar at the stadium although queues make it 20 minutes to get a pint! I'm not really selling it am I? It's a shame what's happened to Coventry and seeing the decline over the years, I remember them in the Premier League, it's scary how quickly fortunes can change. Be warned watching Chester is one roller coaster, it's never easy! enjoy the ride

Closest pubs are the Chi or the Bouv on Garden Ln but they’re a fair walk.
I’ve got a couple of good mates that are Cov fans from work, shame what’s happened the last few years.

If your from Coventry then don't go expecting the Ricoh Arena when you come and watch us - it's more like Butts Park arena, but unlike Butts, it does at least have four sides.
Really sad to see what's happened at Coventry since Joy Seppala and SISU took over. They have totally destroyed the club, caring more about aquiring the Arena itself, than the actual football club, and its supporters. Disgraceful the way they've been allowed to just carry on, while the powers that be in football, sit back and do nothing.
Welcome to Chester anyway, if you decide to follow us on a regular basis, it wont be dull that's for sure.

I'd go and watch our massive neighbours if I were you. We thought the nightmare of the past 2 years was over, but like one of those zombie movies it just keeps coming. Very unlikely there will be a match at the Deva for some while. Sorry to be negative, but that's the usual here in Chester.

Let's hope it's sorted asap and the game's on - I know it's caused your game tonight to be postponed. Thank you for the tips, I live just around the corner from Telfords, so it's not to far away at all. I was at Wimbledon Away on Saturday and their terrace for away fans, was 3 concrete steps along one side of the pitch, meaning you could only see bald heads and half of the pitch. I've just looked at he McNally Terrace and it looks 100 x better than that, so I'll happily get in there! Odds on I'll be coming on my todd, so may go down to the Blues Bar to watch the early kick off - if they have TVs on in there? Thanks!

It is really... goes to show how the wrong people (crooks) being in charge of a football club, can cause lasting damage. I will never forget the embarrassing scenes of when we left the Ricoh, with shots of staff on Midlands today running out of the Club Shop at the Ricoh, clutching manequuins and bundles of shirts or the Chairman, Tim Fisher, saying we only own the balls, cones and players contracts. I remember having a ST in the Premier League, feels like light years ago now. Am I right in saying Chester flitted between League 1/League 2 (as they're now called) for a while? Thank you!

Yeah, mainly league Two and briefly League One. Football League status for 77 years I think it was before we first got relegated to non league then we were back for 5 years but we were run into the ground.. literally! and here we are. 2 Leagues below, part time but fan owned and in control of our future. Things can only get better surely

Why is it that face to face you are a really nice bloke, but on here you are just the opposite. The comment about chinese food above also? That is a fundraiser for our club for heavens sake, why feel the need to comment that you don't like the food? People are giving up their free time to help Chester FC and you feel that you need to spout shite all over their thread. Give your head a scratch. Come on down to the Deva one week, Chesterskyblue. It is a friendly place, we play in blue stripes, the football is woeful and you can usually get a half decent pint. Much like Coventry. We are not all like Hannibal. In fact Hannibal is not like Hannibal when he isn't on the internet.

I can't actually believe that someone who has supposedly supported this club for years would quite honestly condone telling a new resident of our City to not bother coming to watch us and instead to go and watch our bitter rivals.
It is unbelievable.

Is it just me taking it with a pinch of salt? I thought it was meant tongue-in-cheek as an ode to the trials and tribulations of following our club. "Nobody said it would be easy but they didn't say it would be this hard."
Welcome to Hell, mate, you'll definitely enjoy it! We do.

What pisses me off re this site is that when someone talks bollox and asked to qualify their comments they realise how they come across and being cowards say it was only tongue in cheek? 2 faced!

It is unbelievable. Don't worry, even as a pretend Cestrian, I wouldn't go and watch Wrexham. I love the city from what I've seen of it, spoilt for choice with pubs here too! Every forum/board has the resident moaner, nothing unusual! How do you think you will do this season?

I enjoy football at any level, last season some of the best trips I had were to Luton, Lincoln and Grimsby...Brighton and Milton Keynes were good but the grounds and atmosphere didn't have the same proper feel as the previously mentioned grounds! I can't wait, will do my best to get down on Saturday and hopefully have a pint or two with you all!

They usually bring a good following, and take themselves, oh so seriously... they really do believe they are the non-league re-incarnation of Manchester's second team! On the other side of the coin, they are fan owned, and helped us a lot when we reformed so no malice. You may hear mention of a certain last minute header at Gigg lane, in our first year back, but you had to be there!

I’ve checked on the Chronicle Website and the Chester twitter account and according to both your game is still on today - is there any chance this still might change?!
Hope the games on and you get the three points you need.

Hi all, I recently moved up to Chester from Coventry through work and in the few months I've been living in this great city, I don't feel like I've done enough to get to know the place or the people. Pusb. Hi fella, I live in Coventry (Earlsdon and the lovely Spon End) for four years in the 1990s when I was at the University of Warwick and spent loads of afternoon watching Premier league footy at Highfield Road. Always had a really soft spot for City since then and have followed them closely since. Been a really difficult time for you hasn't it, we know all about that. Hope you manage to get down to the Deva this season and good luck to the Sky Blues. Our game will be on today.
