I'd go and watch our massive neighbours if I were you. We thought the nightmare of the past 2 years was over, but like one of those zombie movies it just keeps coming. Very unlikely there will be a match at the Deva for some while. Sorry to be negative, but that's the usual here in Chester. What a twit you really are mate. I couldn't give a toss what you think dipstick. My post was tongue-in-cheek. Lord love us!

Hi all, I recently moved up to Chester from Coventry through work and in the few months I've been living in this great city, I don't feel like I've done enough to get to know the place or the people. I've seen you've got FCUM at home on Saturday, so was thinking of popping down to watch (my now local) team and wondered what the craic is in terms of pubs before the game, what stand to sit in etc? Any tips would be great. To give some background on me, I follow Coventry City home and away and managed to do 10-15 home and 14 away games last year, (sad I know, I count) despite moving up here. My club, a bit like yours (although I don't know your background that well) has been mired with financial trouble which rumbles on to this day, despite last year being the best season I've had following us. It got that bad in recent years, that we even moved out of the Ricoh Arena (with the aim of distressing the Council owners to sell it us on the cheap) and moved to Northampton for 18 months, which was without a doubt the worst experience I've had in football - even more so than witnessing us relegated from the Premier League at Villa Park as a 9 year old... I follow England Away a bit as well, starting before the Euros and often see a couple of Chester FC flags knocking about but I've never bumped into who owns them... I hope you boys manage to get promoted back up this season, your new managers have a good track record and there's no way you should be a league below the sheep boys. Any advice for Saturday would be great, thanks. Up the Seals. Pusb. Hi fella, I live in Coventry (Earlsdon and the lovely Spon End) for four years in the 1990s when I was at the University of Warwick and spent loads of afternoon watching Premier league footy at Highfield Road. Always had a really soft spot for City since then and have followed them closely since. Been a really difficult time for you hasn't it, we know all about that. Hope you manage to get down to the Deva this season and good luck to the Sky Blues. Our game will be on today. Cheers pal! I’m originally from Earlsdon, growing up in Cheylesmore before then, it’s a small world! I used to (and when I go back) drink in the City arms and along Craven Street if you know it and a pub a bit further afield called the Wallace. It has mate, moving to Northampton, points deductions each season, running out of player kits, Wasps taking over the Ricoh, it’s been a total disaster... until last season, where the first time in 47 years we finished in the top 6 and got promoted. I’d only witnessed us get relegated (3 times) in my lifetime so it was a refreshing change. FairPlay to you all for supporting your local team, I know Chester have been through some desperate and awful times too and it’s a lot easier to support Man Utd etc .

Remember watching us play Coventry at Sealand Road in the League Cup for one of my first evening games (1985) as a nine year old. Think Coventry got a late winner and their fans ripped up the mesh fencing below the main stand to celebrate?
Happy days!

I’ve checked on the Chronicle Website and the Chester twitter account and according to both your game is still on today - is there any chance this still might change?! Hope the games on and you get the three points you need. Pusb UTS If you did go, you can come again!

I did much the same twenty years earlier. The Albany, City Arms, Earlsdon Cottage, Phantom Coach, Dolphin, Burnt Post to name a few old haunts. Still have a soft spot for their football club. Yeah I remember the Albany, City Arms. Phantom Coach always looked dodgy to me. After that there was the Shakespeare in Spon Street, the Courtyard in town as well as the Colin Campbell for rockers like me. Mr G's did a good student night although it was mainly populated by students from the Poly.

Do you remember the Forresters Arms near the old Highfield Road ground? My bro worked there with the legendary Sid when he was studying in Coventry. They don't make pubs like that anymore.

Sorry all for taking so long to reply but I wanted to make sure I gave a proper response to what I saw/experienced on Saturday - then of course life popped up. Anyway...
What a total breathe of fresh air Saturday was! Prior to Saturday, I had been to 3 games with the City and only saw 2 goals, so to have seen 8 goals by the end of 90 minutes was something special! The game had plenty to it and I thought you played some good football in the first half and looked dangerous on the attack throughout the game, with some decent crossing constantly causing Bradford problems.
The only downside was, IMO, that you looked shaky at the back and seemed to struggle with picking up the Bradford number 7 but thankfully their number 10 couldn’t finish a Mars bar!....but at the end of the day, everyone has their own opinions and you know your own team better than me.
The Deva really surprised me. I’ve been on two League 1 Away Days this season and I can genuinely say that your ground was a 100x better than Gillingham or Wimbledon or in fact lots of other grounds I visited last year in League 2 - so hats off to you!! I stood on the Harry McNally which had a decent view and felt like a proper terrace. I’d love to see what it’s like when it’s packed, it must be bouncing.
The parking facilities were spot on, £2 a pop and right next to the ground. £1 a coffee, £2.50ish a pie, £1 crisps and you could even have a beer and watch the game, which was a real treat in this day and age. I did hear someone have a dig at the £4 a Carlsberg price but it’s £4.60 at the Ricoh for a flat Fosters and all of that money goes to a third party catering company, so I had no problems whatsoever to pay the £4 which goes straight into your clubs coffers. I didn’t get a chance to go to the Blues Bar but that gives me something to tick off the next time.
I headed home really happy on Saturday and had a great day out. Spoke to 3/4 people who welcomed me on my first trip to the Deva and I can assure you it won’t be my last.
On a final note, I know sometimes it’s easy to think, my clubs crap, we’ve just got relegated etc but for an outsider coming in, there’s a lot of character to your club and you’ve been dragged through the mill and back again in the last 10-15 years, yet you still battle on.
I said last year when Coventry City got relegated to League 2, that it was impossible for us to get promoted back to League 1. I’d seen us relegated 3 times, not have a top 6 finish in 47 years, move from the city, lose our ground and there was just no positives to supporting Coventry City. Thankfully, last season, full credit to Mark Robins, we turned in the upwards direction for the first time in my lifetime. Don’t give up on Chester, even if the next few months get a bit rocky, from what I saw on Saturday you’ve got a hell of a lot to be proud of and hope for.
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Deva and I’ll be back up the next time I’m not following the Sky Blues. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Really good to hear you enjoyed the experience and will be back. It was a great game and good to hear your thoughts comparing our stadium with others in L2. Must take exception to the parking facilities comment though, the car park is a disgrace with craters you could literally disappear into. I can only assume you have a 4x4! It's now bordering on the dangerous. Sorry all for taking so long to reply but I wanted to make sure I gave a proper response to what I saw/experienced on Saturday - then of course life popped up. Only ever visited Coventry once and that was to spend a day at the National Transport Museum. Saw the clubs FA Cup parade bus.
Glad you enjoyed the game on Saturday, I take it you didn't go on Tuesday night...
