How crap is the standard at this level? I'm pretty sure it wasn't like this last time we were in this division. No quality on the ball and some of the decision making is laughable. Pritchard and Smalley are two of the worst players I've seen in a Chester shirt since reformation. How they keep getting a game is criminal. Massive tests ahead with Boston, Kiddy and Chorley. I do fear we are going to get murdered with that defence. Its pub football mate played by players who aren't good enough to be professionals , and it was last time, but we were winning then which made it seem more enjoyable.
Even at this level we can't compete, how low do we need to drop before we do ?
We drew. Win our games in hand and the table doesn't look so bad. A tad of an overreaction! Disappointing game - especially on the entertainment front. It was the sort of game you would have liked to escape with a scrappy 1-0, which may well of happened if we got the penalty. The ref didn't give it as it wasn't like he was chopped down - he was more bundled over. Definite pen though - anywhere else on the pitch and the ref doesn't think twice about awarding a free kick.

Given that we have only lost two matches out of 7 then it's pretty obvious that we are competing. The issue is that the balance isn't quite right and some of the recruits aren't working out. We were never going to sign a new squad of players and each one be a roaring success. The standard last night was poor and both teams cancelled each other out, but that can happen at any level. The managers aren't stupid, they've already mentioned that if certain players continue to make the same mistakes then they will be moved on, but in certain cases they are probably giving them a fair crack of adjusting to a higher level. I really don't think we are far off, but I think 2 or 3 will be moved on before Xmas and we've also got George Green and Deane Smalley to come back.

I really worry if Smalley is facing Nathan Arnold on Saturday. A new right back this week is a must.

We could have won it, then again, we could easily have lost it last night. All the relevant terms have been used - scrappy, disappointing etc etc etc but I actually quite enjoyed it, purely because I could genuinely not pick a winner + decent away following added to the atmosphere. Also, loved the "conversations" between the crowd and their No.5, he was certainly giving as much as he got!
Yet again, it's often heart in the mouth time whenever our defence is attacked with pace but FCUM weren't much better. So, a bit more quality from both sides in front of goal and the high scoring game many had forecast would have materialised.
Jonno's post match interview was refreshingly honest and justifiably critical. The players will be in no doubt that last night's performance was not good enough. As always in this situation, it's what happens in the next match that matters now. Over to the management and the players.

Dom, had a good game. You are joking aren't you. He was terrible again, giving the ball way in crucial parts of the game. Man marking was poor, watched the ball and had no player awareness throughout the game. Sorry but he is massive weak link in that defence. Been terrible the last 2 games. Dom had a better game tonight than he did on Saturday, but that’s not hard really is it. Can’t fault his effort, but I just don’t think he’s good enough for a team that wants to be challenging for promotion at this level. Likewise with Prichard and Shenton. Although he had virtually nothing to do I felt that some of his decision making was poor. One ball over the top was his all day and he hesitated, retreated and a better striker would have buried it. Also responsible for conceding some unnecessary corners (which I feel we struggle to defend).

Come on guys we’re giving Boston their game plan here.
Dom Smalley is an absolutely fantastic right back. An absolute rock. Won’t get past him easy.

Its the managers call to have the water on the pitch so no word needed there mate we do talk hence thats why it is put on Are you the groundsman? If you are the pitch looked in very good nick. Just too many times though the ball was played down the channels and looked like it was bouncing on ice and picking up speed there was that much water put on in the second half. If it held up a bit more we could've gotten on to a few of those in dangerous positions.

Thanks mate yes i am the groundsman i get what you're saying about the water but its the risk you take putting it on . Like i said the managers like the pitch watered alot and it is the case at most clubs now only put it on if told to do so . Sorry if you thought it cost us the win!! ( only joking) ! We always have a chat before the game to make call on water going on or not. Hope this clears it up going forward .

Just aim those sprinklers away from the control room!

It was a poor standard last night from Both teams and it feels like a missed opportunity. Smalley was a little bit better than Saturday but stil doesn’t look upto it , dont rate Pritchard either yet and think 2 new full backs are in order ASAP. Howson did ok but still wouldn’t be in my starting 11 , would prefer grand in the centre with either Moran or Livesey but our full backs are that poor we need grand at LB . Didn’t agree with taking both Mooney and Mahon off at the same time maybe one of them but both killed our momentum . It’s still very early days and after our stop start season I think if we can get around 12/13 points from our first 10 games would be a decent start however we have some real tough tests coming up particularly the Kidderminster game who I think will be right up there and are full time so will be a decent test for us to gauge how far off we are , they were my favourites to win it this year so looking forward to that one in particular.

We've been heavily watering for a few seasons now, i just wondered if there is dialogue between yourself and the managers, so im glad to hear that there is. Haha no never said it cost us! I do think the amount of through-balls that ran on too far because of how wet it was doesn't come in our favour though.. it would be interesting to hear the managers reasoning behind it all.

I really can't see how people expect every signing these lads made to be a success. A new team on a low budget, we're pretty much where i expected us to be, a work in progress. This is a 2 year plan.

Tell me about it. Talk of us not competitiing is laughable when we’ve lost two! What do people expect a walkover every game on a mid table budget?

I didn’t think they would get every signing right. Both Young and Wright went through an awful lot of players. What has taken me back is just how poor some of the signings have been and that some of them are players they have worked with before. I’m looking at some players and thinking they’re not good enough for this division, let alone Chester FC and a push for the top half of the table.

We paid for Jamie Rainford who ticked boxes and should have done well for us. We paid for Ben Mills who soon dropped down the leagues (now playing at Whitchurch vs COL on Sat i believe. Plenty, like say Dom Smalley who was player of the season for the promoted side should be capable at this level but for some reason dont produce it.

Yes we have plenty of dialogue regarding the pitch have done with every manager upto now. from watering, training on pitch even the height of cutting the pitch ect .also always let the opposition know before we water so they are ok with it and then as they say its the same for both sides !!!

What you also have to consider is that even though they may have worked with some of them before that they wouldn't necessarily know how they'd cope playing in front of an expectant crowd and at a big club compared to where they were. They might have ability, but crumble under playing in front of 2k where you hear all the moans and groans. I'd say there's a fair few that they've worked with who have looked alright so far......Stopforth, Burton, Dudley, Grand. Howson isn't great but is decent as backup. Haven't seen enough of Livesey yet.

Awful player - Based on 6 games and I bet you haven’t seen all of them anyway? If you have it’s still 6 games. He was actually very good against Ashton and set up the second. He was also okay against Guiseley. It’s ridiculous how we write off players at this club without fair chance. Especially when they’ve come from the league below, and this is their first time playing at this level. Related to management, heard it all now.

I cannot understand why a small group on here take a dislike to one or more of our players every year, it starts off low key then as the season goes on the vile insults get worse. I don’t get it ;say you don’t rate a player or he shouldn’t be in the squad, but why does it have to turn to nasty vile insults, sorry but I just don’t get it.

I don't understand why people respond to Goat wind-ups. At the moment they have the upper hand so we can't win and best to ignore them. When the tables turn, do you think Massive Floodlights, Corner Flag and G&R will be posting on here - no chance. Don't give them the satisfaction of a reaction.
