Remember when our first game of the season at Solihull was postponed last year? We had a right to feel aggrieved, but the persecution complex the manager and CEO developed over it was well over the top. McCarthy was still using it as an excuse weeks later for disrupting the season, and Maguire felt the need to put out a statement. I seem to remember when it was rearranged, the club had a moan about having to play it a few days after the trip to Torquay. All in all, we were feeling sorry for ourselves and went down there with a right chip on our shoulders. It was obvious we would lose the fixture, and we did. It was a poor, losing mentality.
Compare that to Bern and Johnno, who had genuine reason to have a moan after being denied a home game for more than a month, and the timing of it was awful just after the Blyth fiasco. Not once, however, have I heard either of them complain about the situation, or tried to use it as an excuse for an off-key performance. Similarly, off the pitch, I was impressed with how the club kept us updated while the Deva was out of action, and liked DHW's comment that there's no point in moaning and we just have to get on with sorting it.
Shit happens in football and it can be very unfair and not always your fault, but when it does, deal with it! Don't play the martyr. If you do, you'll only bring more unhappiness upon yourself. Psychology and attitude is a big part of the game, and though mistakes have been made this season, I do think we now have a managerial duo and board that understands that.

Yes. I have alluded to this elsewhere but it's an absolute breath of fresh air with these two in the dugout and their mentality has swept right through the club.

Have to agree. Listening to the two managers speak, even after the horrendous Blythe and Telford games, has been a breath of fresh air. This season hasn't been easy with the postponements and some pretty lame performances but you can't help but like the two blokes. They get the club and they seem proud to be the managers.

They were like that from the off. In their first interview they said they knew the budget limitations but were happy to work with it and still backed themselves to have a crack at the play offs. I think we've all had enough of managers that blame everything apart from themselves, so it's actually nice to have a bit of honesty. When we lose, they tell it how it is rather than hiding behind excuses. Realistically I still think it might be a bit ambitious this year to go for the play offs but I do think we'll be in the mix for those places, which I'd have taken at the start of the season. You'd never heard the managers say that though, as they are winners and will want the play offs.
I'd just like everyone to cut them some slack when we do lose a couple of games. Everything that was said after the Blyth game was understandable, but we're unbeaten in 5 now and showing signs of becoming a decent team at this level, so I don't wanna see the same plums at Telford yelling 'fk off back to Salford' when we have a bad run. They are honest blokes who have produced a team that at the very least will run through brick walls for the cause, how long is it since we've been able to say that?!

Best thing about them for me, they see no limitations in what they can achieve for our club despite not having the strongest of budgets. It just shows how confident they are with their signings, and themselves. Some people we're literally calling them Dumb and Dumber on here after Blyth, saying they don't know how to manage and we don't look like we have any game plan. Perhaps a bit of a reality check was all that was needed. We we're three games into a new season with 15 new players.

I don't wanna see the same plums at Telford yelling 'fk off back to Salford' when we have a bad run. In fairness I think a lot of that was due to the fact that we’d just lost two games back to back, the first of which was our worst ever result & during the second players were seemingly unaware of who should be taking corners. We’re used to putting up with shit & after a promising pre-season & start it all seemed to be going off the rails again. Was some of it over the top? Yeah it was. But let’s have perspective, those “plums” are your fellow Chester fans who had travelled to watch another abject performance, some of them would have been at Blyth as well.

That's all well and good but Bern and Jonno haven't won at Aldershot.

The other side of it is not getting too carried away when we win a few. Of course it's nice to enjoy some good results but it doesn't suddenly make us world beaters and there are still things that need to be addressed. At the moment in time we're a work in progress and some of the players are starting to bed in and realise what the managers are asking of them. With the work ethic they show, I'd say that nobody should be rolling us over without at least fighting for it.

McCarthy was a dickhead. Nothing else to say here. Not was - he is, and always will be. I knew his name would come up in a thread entitled Mentality, as he showed just how mental he became whilst here!

I was v unsure at Telford (which gave me McCarthy flashbacks) but some of our supporters behaviour was truly appalling, and I said give them 10 games. They’ve more than proved me wrong in 9 games and the teams still a work in progress. There will be many more ups and downs to come but it feels now like we are on an upwards trajectory. So people need to wind their necks in, get behind the team and do so for the rest of the season. Like everyone else I left the ground so proud of them last night. I’d forgotten how that felt. For all of those hurling the abuse at Telford how did you feel last night?

Like them both very much on what they've done so far.
Blyth had the potential to derail the whole season, but it's been put to bed as a freak result and we've kicked on. I don't think we can be too surprised though, they did win this division last year so they know the course.
Absolutely agree that if we lose 2-0 against Chorley, we don't need the hysterics. We'll win more than we'll lose this season and we'll do it with absolute commitment to the cause. That's more than enough after the last 3 years of shite.
