I'm surprised with the amount of people that think similarly to yourself in terms of next season. Only keeping 8 players would mean signing at least 60% of a full squad AGAIN! i'd much rather see us try to keep the bulk of the squad, let go of a few - Chappell/Marsh/Durrell/Killock and sell Sam Hughes for as much as possible. Then invest the money in 3 or 4 really good solid players that may make the difference towards a potential playoff push (optimistic on our budget..)

Lynch Vassell Horwood Astles Hughes? Hunt Killock? Mahon Dawson Shaw Alabi Akintunde Maybe Durrell Snap up Lloyd too! We don't have a Vassell permanently. Hughes I already mentioned he's off. Killock no point paying for a player who spends his life injured. Lloyd if he did get released would be snapped up by a bigger club.

We are a business and it is a harsh world so while Killock cannot help being injured, we are not Social Services and cannot afford to keep someone who has barely kicked a ball in anger. As regards signing Vassell, do you think he would sign for us paying peanuts when he is worth much more.

Vassell had just been signed for Walsall a day or two before he was loaned to us and he will be highly rated there. Absolutely no chance in the world we're signing him, there's just as much chance of us signing Messi. If Killock can't help it, tough luck, we're not a charity we're a business and we can't afford a wage of a player always injured.

From what I have seen of Horwood, I'm yet to be convinced. Same with Ryan Lloyd. Needs to be taught how to mark and not concede so much space

I think the major problem with the squad this year was the lack of a fourth forward. Its much easier to get a midfield player to cover at full back than as a forward so I'd prefer us to replace a fulll back (probably Killock if he doesn't play this season or Vassell if unavailable) with a fourth forward.

I think a wise head in the middle of the park would be a great addition. Particularly someone with some bite and grit along lines of Paul carden or Sean Reid. I guess some of those type 0of players are looking to get into player management type roles and JM might not be too keen. Incidentally I note that Ben Davies was playing for Grimsby against Portsmouth this week. Think he plays right back these days. He must be pushing mid 30s. What a great midfield we had in those days albeit on a bigger budget than now probably

Presumably McCarthey could choose to offer shorter contracts to those players with fitness doubts if he chooses to. Eg contract until January which we will extend if you prove your fitness to play etc.

I think what we need is a real leader like with the bite and intensity of Kingsley James.

I cannot fathom how Macclesfield were able to get James, they surely weren't offering more than us?
Oh well we've got Captain Fantastic

We need to not make the mistake of resigning whole squad up , we must leave a bit of space to sign a few fresh faces. It is vital we sign a big strong targetman to lead the line next season even if we retain Alibi ! I feel we should only sign players over 6ft unless they are wingers , other teams seem to have big lads even at fullback ! We get outmuscled a lot in games, all the top sides are big and use bullyboy tactics. What will happen with young Waters and Evans whose wages are being paid by Sweetenham Chemist ? We really need a reserve side to bridge gap between youth and first team otherwise all our promising youngsters get released when to old for youth team !

Notice James Alabi is the next player to come out with "if the offer was right" in today's online Chron. Seems to be the buzz phrase to keep their options open and I can't say I blame them - it's a just a job at the end of the day.

Translated that means I will sign unless I get a better offer, which at this level you can't blame anyone for looking after number one. Looks like Astles is waiting to see if anyone comes in with a better offer as well, shame but that's how it is.

Lads have to look out for themselves and take the best offer for them and their families etc. If they stay, excellent, if they move on then all the best to them.

I've been impressed with him on the rare occasions he's played centrally - may have solved our attacking problems if he had been available to partner Alabi in recent weeks. Certainly needs an Alabi-type forward alongside him, mind.

I have always thought Chappell was better than most give him credit for, although I do think he struggles to cope with the physicality of this league sometimes.
