I see that Nuneaton are again in serious danger of going out of business. Rather bizarrely too, the club has no Chairman or Directors running the club currently and is instead be "overseen" by Manager Nicky Eaden and the rest of the footballing management team. An education in how much of a close call last season was for us and how we should never ever again rest on our laurels nor take for granted that an investor or single owner would be the better option for us. Such a shame I fear for the long term future of non league football in its present format too many bankrolled mickey mouse teams, authorities turning a blind eye to financial fair play etc. I'm sure fan owned is the way forward but as earlier this year showed its not that easy. I wonder how many teams have to die before changes are made. I hope for the fans of Nuneaton they are not the next one to go, but if they are then the resurrection of their club will be in their hands

Rest on your laurels, well of course not. But I'd say that being a fans own club or a single investor is no guarantee that bad stuff won't happen. It's all about the competence of the people in charge whoever they are. We've been let done on a couple of occasions.

Aren't they fan owned ? Or atleast used to be anyway? Would be good if we could have a bucket to raise funds for them if we can

I also see a half page ''Advert'' in the NLP that Hednesford Town FC are up for sale. Looks a nice ground of 6.000 capacity in the middle of nowhere. again owner giving u due to lack of support.

Think Hednesford had big ambitions at one time. I remember then having some decent cup runs in the 90s and being a top-half Conference side. Can’t remember the owner’s name without looking it up but he had big glasses and a hairstyle bordering on a mullet.
Does anyone remember when we went there in 2000 for what was one of our first non-league away days? Didn’t go myself but I recall a lot of our fans being unhappy at an OTT police presence and that Hednesford had hiked up the admission fees to cover it - something I don’t think would be allowed today.

I remember it well. Poor police treatment and ridiculously over the top. It was one of our first away games in the conference and followed on from the trip to Nene Park where the police got batons out at one point. I remember being filmed going into Hednesford (bearing in mind I was with my sister and Parents) and we were put in a poxy seated stand that was full to the brim despite large parts of terracing being unused. Dire game from memory as well.

Talking of Nuneaton, our postponed home game with them a week on Saturday (because they have 3 players on international duty who don’t actually play) has been rearranged for Tuesday 6th November. Who knows if they’ll still be a thing by then.

Dire game from memory as well. I think some clubs were just terrified of ex-League sides back then. Unlike now, it was only really us and Doncaster who had any kind of FL history, and maybe Hereford and Scarborough although most of their histories were in non-league.
Rushden were the only real bankrolled club, and there were some real tiddlers like Leigh RMI, Hayes (who I think had benefited from a sell-on fee for Les Ferdinand), and at the time Forest Green were a complete obscurity. Then you had the Conference mainstayers of the time like Yeovil, Telford, Northwich, Woking, Kettering. Was a weird league, and with only one up and no playoffs, your season could easily be pretty much over by October.

I remember seeing Hednesford as a title threat the year we were in the Evo-Stik Prem. I think they actually beat us three times that season - twice in the league and once in the cup.

Yes ~~~ charged us £11, when it was normally £7. Game ended 0-0 if I remember correctly. The ground has been further up-graded from when we were there. Hednesford is only a place with about the same population as Market Drayton or Whitchurch. Also remember seeing one of our worst ever strikers warming up (ex Man City and Swindon). Name escapes.

Who knows if they’ll still be a thing by then. You'd think that in their present plight they would want to play it on the Saturday as the form we are in we could well take 200+ which would be welcome money for them instead on a wet November Tuesday night be lucky to take 75-100 it just doesn't make sense to me to call of matches at this level for international duty

It got a bit noisy at the turnstiles when they said it was £11 for everybody, kids as well. Very OTT police presence that day.

Back on the subject of Nuneaton, I see their youth team managed to blow a 7-2 lead tonight.
