From time to time we all get a bit sad... not to worry, this time next week, we’ll be on the level, and the week after, Devachat will probably be like a dog with two cocks...

Literally after every win, we're the best team in the world ever.
Literally after every defeat, sack the managers, the board, the groundsman (sorry Baz!), the caterers.
Endless loop...

The only overreaction on here is from this happyclapper psychopath. Losing to a step 5 team when there's so much money at stake deserves our opprobrium. I'll be interested to hear what went wrong. Sounds like Mahon dropped a bollock big time.

The bi polar performances don't help. As bad as it gets that tonight. Some of their players weren't much better than west Cheshire league level.

I think maybe if happyclapper52 would go for a little lie down now and again, this place would seem a lot more rational. He doesn’t quite seem all there mentally to me, and in that regards I don’t really want to make fun of him.

It's not "literally" every defeat though. We've been beaten by the lowest ranked team left in the competition. The duo might be ept in setting us up not to lose, but inept when it comes to sides giving it a go against us.

‘Lowest ranked’ is a technicality at this level. There’s no way that Dunston are actually the worst team left in the competition. There are North West Counties League and Northern League sides as good as anyone in our division. I actually thought the 4-0 v City of Liverpool was a much better result than anyone gave us credit for.
Anyone thinking that because they’re three leagues below us, it’s on par with an L2 team beating a Premier League team is on another planet. Non-League football is generally shite, and we shouldn’t be that surprised if a supposedly lesser team can be a bit less shite than us on one day.

The northern league is probably the strongest of the feeder leagues. Dunston are unbeaten this season won their last 6. Got games in hand on everyone. I feel this league is easily on a par with the Evostick league. You only have to look how well Runcorn Linnets are doing this year, who came up from the NWC league. Put in perspective. Dunston were well up for it with their strongest team. We however are down to the bare bones playing kids, players carrying injuries and players playing out of position. It's the end of the world? no! It is not as much of a shock result as some are saying (the usual suspects who only post when we lose). Anyway we have a couple of weeks now without a game to get some players fit and kick on again.

As a bit of a student of non league football since we've been down here I've noticed that the Northern League (NL)(Step 5) is really on a par with Step 4 (Evo Stik East and West). The teams that do win that NL historically have refused promotion presumably because of the large amounts of travelling involved. That seems to be changing now. Despite all that a team that has played all but one of the top 7 teams in Conference North and lost only one and conceded only a dubious penalty in 6 games should not be conceding 4 to a much lower team. I watched the video that someone had posted of Dunstan v Consett and it seemed to show a decent level of performance. Was Nolan injured and was Thomson's inclusion unavoidable?

That's a very half full, positive view and unfortunately those of us who have over 50+ years of support tend towards the negative. The prospect of going through another couple of rounds and the financial rewards lost are going to have a negative effect this season however you look at it. The 3 week break and the loss of match fitness is also a concern.

People will go to a game and walk away with an opinion on it. If it was good, they'll say so. If not, they'll say so.
Of course you get a few OTT reactions but like I often say, it's the same on every messageboard. I'm certain York, Stockport etc messageboards would have made for similar reading if they were in our shoes yesterday.

Anyway we have a couple of weeks now without a game to get some players fit and kick on again. This is bang on. Nature of part time players is the occasional duff game. We have a lower budget so need to accept this. I'd take the playoffs over a cup run, as nice as the money is. I do sometimes wonder how some posters on here force themselves out of bed day to day. I do worry over the state of some of their wellbeing.

I think people are bang within their rights to go off on one after Saturday - we should be beating lower league sides after all - but my God, the overreaction from some..!
A little over half a year after our club's existence was in doubt - the solidarity of the fans to get things on an even keel again - yet one defeat and one member of Devachat declares he (or she) will no longer be attending - glad I wasn't standing next to them in the trenches! Another declares that our season is over - despite being in the playoffs!

To be fair every thread on here eventually ends up in a slanging match whether the team wins or loses.
