Loads of stories over the last couple of days about this, as Hallowe'en parties are happening. What's the general feeling about "blacking up" as famous people? A bit of light-hearted fun? Massively racist? Personally I wouldn't do it, most of these aren't particularly "Hallowe'en-y" anyway (film stars, footballers etc).

Arguably an example of somewhere where we’re a little too racially sensitive. If you’re white and you want to look like someone black, the most obvious thing to do is try and make your skin colour look different, in the same way that if you have black hair and want to look like someone with red hair, you would either dye it or wear a wig. Then again I suppose you have to accept that historically it’s been done in distasteful ways (eg Black and White Minstrels, gollywogs etc) so maybe it’s more respectful to just not do it.
I remember there was an Arsenal game a few years ago where the ref accidentally sent of Theo Walcott instead of Kieron Gibbs (or it may have been the other way round), and some people suggested the mistake was racist. I thought that was daft, because skin colour is an obvious physical attribute and in the same way that you might confuse two red-haired players, you might confuse two with black skin if the majority on the pitch were white.

Much too sensible a post for here.
