Collins English Dictionary could make "gammon" their Word of the Year for 2018.
Collins’ definition of ‘Gammon’ is: “a person, typically male, middle-aged, and white, with reactionary views, especially one who supports the withdrawal of Britain from the European Union.”
I like the various definitions offered up by Urban Dictionary, including...
"A term used to describe a particular type of Brexit-voting, europhobic, middle-aged white male, whose meat-faced complexion suggests they are perilously close to a stroke."
"The term 'gammon' is linked to the unhealthy pink skin tone of such stout yeomen, probably because of high blood pressure caused by decades of 'PC gone mad', being defeated in arguments about the non-existent merits of Brexit and women getting the vote."
"Gammon often make their appearance on BBC's Question Time jabbing their porcine fingers at the camera while demanding immediate nuclear strikes against Remain-voting areas, people who eat vegetables and/or cyclists."
Brilliant!

It doesn't really need a definition, just put the name Mike Gapes next to it.

Could this not be considered to be racist against white males?

It's odd that if this sort of thing was posted about another group of people it would be considered offensive, yet on here you seem free to spout your bile unchecked.

How? It's a lump of meat. Take a step back and work it out laterally. I will give you the first clue: 1. What animal does Gammon come from? I will give you the second clue in due course. It’s not hard or complex to figure out. A lot of people are clocking onto this as being a racist term but once again you are struggling Manky my son!

It is quite funny how angry and offended people get over the term, even playing the race card. This is exactly the sort of behaviour they criticise!
Saying that, we probably do need to evolve a bit from all this namecalling. Nobody changes their mind by being insulted, in fact if anything terms like ‘gammon’ and ‘snowflake’ only serve to galavanise people.
I love the lyric ‘this snowflake’s an avalanche’ in this song.

I'm not sure you're coming from the right angle as to where the racism claim comes from. If there is a racism claim to be made, it's that the term can only really apply to white people, and there's arguably an ageism factor as well since going red in the face is more likely among older people with higher blood pressure etc.
As I said though, I think it's ironic that the people referred to as 'gammon' are usually the first to complain about 'political correctness' and so on, yet suddenly use it to their advantage when they're on the receiving end. It comes across only caring about discrimination when they are the ones being discriminated against, which shows a lack of morality and a political selfishness.

You defeat your own argument. You say they don't like political correctness yet deny their right to be offended. Is it any wonder they dislike PC when they're excluded by the likes of you. By the way, on a board which is world class in sweeping generalisations your lack of morality comment is right up there.

For someone ever eager to share his opinion, you obviously don't like others having a different one. Why bother to come on this thread (endlessly) if you don't want to hear difference. Why don't you and Sychdyn just talk to yourself in the mirror. Mind you it's the standard left wing ploy now - shut down debate by accusing the other side of racism, hatred of the poor, nationalist fascism, whatever you want to dream up.

No need for a hissy fit fella, it’s only a message board, not life and death. As for wanting to shut down debates, you couldn’t be further from the truth. I find most of your posts highly entertaining, it’s like Alan Partridge meets Enoch Powell.

By the way, on a board which is world class in sweeping generalisations your lack of morality comment is right up there. I’m not denying anybody’s right to anything, but if when someone argues that kids should still play with gollywogs, that Love Thy Neighbour was funny, and that the appalling phrase ‘libtards’ is an OK thing to call to people with liberal/left-wing views, if that person decides that it’s suddenly offensive and racist when they are on the receiving end of the joke, that is hypocritical. In my opinion, it shows that they are unable or unwilling to consider anybody’s feelings apart from their own. But as I said, I try not to use the term ‘gammon’ anyway because I don’t think labelling and insults help, racist or not. I talk to people and try and change their minds.
