Due to it being Christmas tomorrow I have decided to create this thread early, but on Boxing Day (Wednesday) we make the trip up to face Southport away in Merseyside which will be another vital game for us. Our display and result against Telford was superb on Saturday which continued our great run of form going into Christmas. We have plenty of matches coming up thick and fast over this period, although I believe Telford will prove to be our toughest opponents, so to get over them already bodes well.
Southport V Chester has seemed to be the norm lately due to us locking horns twice over the past month in the FA Trophy, hence we will be hoping for some sort of ‘revenge’ on Wednesday. I also expect us to take a decent following there as our support has been fantastic lately, and I’m sure a following of around 600 will continue to influence our players. Our opponents are in a good run of form that we must be aware of, although looking at the table we should be taking 3 points from this game.
Southport have had a very mixed season thus far as a very poor start saw them lose their first 4 games, hence they have spent the majority of the season in and around the bottom 3. However, they are currently on a good run as an upturn in form sees them lie in 17th place following a 2-1 win at Ashton United 2 days ago. Also, our opponents have undergone 2 runs in both domestic cups which went to an end last week, as firstly they were defeated by Solihull Moors in the FA Trophy, before losing 2-0 against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup. There will be a few former blues up against us on Wednesday, with Jordan Archer, Jason Gilchrist, Liam Davies and Ryan Astles in opposition territory whilst Jon McCarthy is Southport’s assistant manager.
Hopefully we will take another strong following on Wednesday as our lads deserve our backing. As it stands this will be Akwasi Asante’s last game for us, although a deal should be completed soon as he has been unplayable. This will not be easy as Southport are on a decent run, but so are we which is why I’m backing us to avenge our FA Trophy defeat. Once again, Merry Christmas blues. Have a good one and see you there Wednesday. For those of you who are still undecided, I don’t know what you are missing out on. UP THE SEALS!
Score: Southport 1-2 Chester FC (Asante, Mooney)
Attendance: 1,325 (618 Chester FC)
COYB!
