The February Senior Blues meeting takes place on Friday 7th February in the Blues Bar, ko is at 11.00am.
Guest Speakers are ex-Blues defender Carl Ruffer, who needs no introduction, and Mike Riley, who was the club doctor under Guterman, Smith and Vaughan. Chris Courtenay Williams will also talk about the Senior Blues trip to the Somme, so we'll probably hear about a couple of 5-a-side goals scored on the Western Front.
New members are welcome and all money raised goes to the Senior Blues Youth Foundation.
Another great turnout for the February meeting, with every seat in a packed room taken. First speaker was Dr Mike Riley who, sadly, didn't have any tasty Gutterman, Smith or Vaughan stories, and because of the hippocratic oath couldn't talk about any medical issues he'd encountered. He did say that after games he became part of the hospitality crew and at one game Uri Geller was a visitor. Someone went to the kitchen, brought back a spoon and Uri promptly bent it with apparently very little effort!
Next up was Carl Ruffer who was "interviewed" by Les Smith who, I think, only managed to get 6 words in! Les's first question was "How did you start in football?", and 45 minutes later Carl had hardly taken a breath, coming out with some brilliant funny stories about his time in football. He was in full flow when his allotted time was up and everyone agreed he must be invited back for Part 2 of his talk. Carl is one of the best speakers ever!
Finally SB chairman Chris Courtenay Williams spoke about the SB trip to the WW1 battlefields last October, assisted with a slide show. However, some of the pics were missing from the slideshow, and when they've been found there will probably be a part 2 here too. There will almost certainly be a similar trip later this year as it was a great success.
For those on the trip to the BBC's MediaCity, please remember to bring photo-id with you.
