Time for McCarthy to admit he's just not got the required motivational & tactical requirements to be manager,my opinion is we should offer Sharps the position, surely he'd jump at the chance,if we go into next season with the same squad & attitude we're down, end of.

It is painfully obvious with every passing game that Sharps was the one that organised and motivated these players. Maybe McCarthy is right, maybe these players are good enough. On the other hand he very clearly isn't. Run since December it utterly shocking and coincides with Sharps leaving and the appointment of that useless lump that appears on occasion in his place. It's difficult to see how next season isn't going to be a very long one, stuck with manager and the remains of this squad. Good luck shifting season tickets and getting crowds over 2000 on that premise!

Why would Ian Sharps want the job? Probably on more money than McCarthy, is on a 3 year contract as first team coach at a League 1 club. Have to agree that we are missing an assistant to Jon who is totally professional and whose first priority is Chester FC. Players aren't daft (well not all of them!!) they will soon loose respect for coaches who aren't committed to the cause.

We have missed Ian, but I wouldn't give him a manager's job now that he is two leagues above us. I have to say though since he has left we haven't stopped leaking goals in. We need a defensive coach put in place sometime.

Unfortunately we seem to in the same position albeit with a few more points on the board than this time last season. However some will equate this to success, unlike however the missing 600 home fans and non- renewing season ticket holders. The long term prognosis on and off the field is grim with Mr McCarthy at the helm. I do accept the long term injuries and the hard luck stories, but he (and admittedly to some extent Mr Burr) is responsible for putting this squad together. Which quite plainly to anyone has witnessed the 10 plus home games this year is nowhere near good enough and at the moment the first team is very poor even against relegation candidates. Those three narrow away wins have been absolutely vital, but so easily could have gone the other way. Losing has to be expected but the performances have been utterly appalling and do not give any basis to the view that this manager has the ability to turn things around, or even meet his own target of “keeping us in this league next season”. Is this the time for the Board to act, regardless of his ridiculous contract extension ?

Actually I believe it's an attacking coach we need.
Our lack of width and runners is really poor. We work the ball wide then have to come back inside and try a threaded ball through a set up defence.
The number of times that Luke George had no-one ahead of him wide was poor late on. He had no choice but to come back inside. Vassell did the same last game except he galloped inside and lost the ball.
Early in the season we did seem to create chances. Now we hardly work their goalie at all. It's just one man running. That's easy for an experienced well drilled team to stop.
Not sure it's Sharps going that has been the tactical problem. You do wonder what assistance Iwelumo is actually providing though. Until he came we seemed to play 4 4 2. Today looked a sort of 4 3 2 1. We've played variations of 4 5 1, 4 2 3 1 over the past few months. None of which have actually worked that well, at home anyway.

That summary is actually a pretty damning indictment of our current manager, his apparent lack of tactical ability, and who seemingly doesn't know how to set up the team effectively.

We need a defensive coach put in place sometime. I'm afraid we need to offload useless players like Richards, Hudson, George, Killock, Dawson and a few others who don't even make the bench. Sam Hughes has only once since Christmas partnered Ryan Astles and that was at Southport. McCarthy should realise this, and act accordingly. We need to go back to basics and not launch senseless high balls to Alabi which he occasionally wins, but immediately loses as he never gets the ball under control. Too often I've gone to games and waited patiently for us to start playing but too often we haven't done that for the whole game, including today. One off target shot was all I can remember.

I don't normally disagree with your posts but I can't understand your dislike of Dawson. For me, he has been the pick of the bunch since he came into the team. Funny how we all see things differently.
