All four divisions at Step 3 are sponsored by bookmakers Bet Victor so are the divisions at Step 4. With Bet Victor taking season bets on all these divisions there is a clear conflict of interest between the decision of the FA and the main sponsor as Bet Victor may have stood to lose large amounts of money if the season had not been expunged. This decision by the FA stinks even more than it appears to.

Bookmakers should not be sponsoring competitions or clubs. It's as clear a conflict of interest as you can get, and it's hypocritical for the FA to take the money from them while imposing strict anti-betting restrictions on players and directors.
Neil Young made this point several years ago when Blue Square, the sponsors of the division at the time, paid out on us winning the Conference North with a few months still to go. Their commercial decisions affect the integrity of the leagues bearing their names.

Stakes placed on anything affected by Covid should be returned/refunded. Simples.

Stakes placed on anything affected by Covid should be returned/refunded. Simples. That is correct. The point I was making was the position of the bookmaker. In the dim distant past I worked for a bookmaker and there were always some combination of outcomes of particular events that resulted in a loss for the bookmaker. A red hot favorite winning the Grand National and the red hot favorite winning the Derby for example. Apparently Bet Victor voided all bets a couple of hours after the FA decision was announced and before it hat been ratified by the FA Council. A significant number of clubs have said there were not consulted so this stinks to put it mildly. Lobster correctly makes the point that football should not be taking sponsorship from bookmakers as there a clear conflict of interest and it is also hypocritical given the ban on betting for those involved in the sport. The decision by the FA to expunge all results is an extremely bad one in my opinion. Many clubs, players and supporters have invested a lot of time and effort to provide on field success and this has been wiped away in an off hand and insulting manner. Conversely those at the bottom have been almost rewarded for their failure. It has been obvious for years that the FA is not fit for purpose and the disgraceful way they have handled this goes a long way in proving that point.
