www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52413053Just seen this on the BBC sport website where it says there is a distinct possibility of no non-league matches below National League level until 2021. National League and above have TV deals in place so games could be played behind closed doors whereas NLN & NLS would need the money from crowds attending.

If thats true it could spell the end of a lot of clubs. I wonder what the FA will do to assist clubs the answer is in the initials

BT Sport pay about £8000 for a televised game in the National League (or at least did last season) of which £6000 goes to the home side and £2000 to the away. There would need to be an astronomical increase in the current deal to sustain football behind closed doors given demand for any potential streaming service is going to be pretty limited.

What would the maximum attendance be at the Deva we could have if we spread everyone out over 4 stands ? 1000 maybe ? Would have to abide by strict social distancing laws though,
That combined with live streaming service may work ...

It makes sense for non-league really. If they’ll have to play games behind closed doors then they’re asking clubs to spend 6/7 figures expenditure on a squad with no crowds to pay for it?

What about the clubs who have players contracted for next season? Our club being one them. I would imagine the end of this year would be beyond the end of the Government's furlough scheme. There are of course other overheads on top of these. How can non-league clubs survive with no income until January 2021?

It seems unlikely games at non league level will be played for some time .But in theory if the social distancing issues were sorted out for the players testing etc. Is it possible for clubs to stream their own games and just charge say a tenner for the fans to watch. Or have BT Got live streaming rights for the Vanarama?

We could stream our games online for a match fee, charge for the radio coverage, sell E-programmes, 50-50 tickets etc.
This is all “pretend” stuff we are doing right now (including today with the E-match day), and as working people have found new ways to work then surely that can be transferred into football at our level. It’s a new way of supporting the club, a new way of the club operating.
The only thing we would lose out on is drinks/food sales but I gather that was never very lucrative and I would imagine there’s no contract in place for next season anyway.

OMG Frank, I actually agree with you on this one

A drug or a vaccine might never come and history suggests probably won't despite the current hype. Do we wait around wondering and waiting for the next 2-3 years? Only a change in attitudes will begin to resolve this issue and there is a long way to go from where we currently are to a point where people will be willing to stand shoulder to shoulder in crowds again. Realistically, there has to come a point over the next 6 months where people are happy and willing to do this for the sake of so many industries, including our football club. Whether that is through gradual exposure or science proving that this virus isn't as bad as first thought. How you forward plan for a season whilst this is the case I really don't know. Behind closed doors, after the initial surge, will die away and there's no way you will get enough people joining streams each week in order to provide appropriate budgets or even forecast one with any certainty.

We cannot stand 'shoulder to shoulder' for at least 12 months (or until a vaccine is found) Too many people have died up to now and this is whilst we are locked down and social distancing! Just too risky. There are more important things in life to be honest than Football, Rugby and horse racing. Before anyone gets upperty thinking I don't want or care about the club..trust me I do care. But regarding football and lower league clubs, I would imagine all of the bank rolled clubs are looking at how to cancel contracts, lay players off and just get rid. I mean Richard Branson is finding it hard so how the hell can people running a National league club getting no income coping? It will not be long before clubs start going into administration (what difference will a 10 pt deduction make)? But it will mean players won't get much money (or anyone else for that matter). It's about to get tasty I think, Civil war is about to break out in lots of clubs and the only Banks that players will get any joy in the next year will be the Foodbank. No business and certaintly a non league football club can stay alive with no income. A year from now lower league football will look very different from what it looks like now

If you think tax dodging billionaire Richard Branson is struggling then the rest of us are absolutely in destitute poverty.
I agree with the rest of your comments though. Football is well down the list at the moment.

Worst case scenario should it come to it is that we make all our players, coaching staff and all paid club staff redundant and start again from scratch when football at our level (with crowds) return. When we will be forced to make that decision, I don't know. That will depend on the science, the government and the FA.

Would there be the same number of volunteers to get a club going again, unfortunately I think not. I’m not being negative but when you look at attendances and enthusiasm 10 years ago versus now then huge difference. If we did do that then it could be the end. Think the next 3 months will be critical.

Think the next 3 months will be critical. Yes it wouldn't be easy to build a new squad and coaching staff from scratch, but many of the other clubs in the NLN would be in the same scenario if it gets to that stage, which would even the playing field considerably. The crowds we get are above average for this level of football and you'd hope would make a difference. Most importantly we'd still have a club and even if we weren't in the promotion picture, at least we wouldn't have to start in the Evo Stik Division One like last time.
