Not one poster on every thread that has moaned about the current form has ever suggested that maybe the team and the manager are just spent up?
Maybe this is the real downside of a small squad and a small budget? Together with a manager who realistically is still only learning his trade in his full first season as gaffer and then losing his No 2 who he obviously worked well with mid way through the season has probably all culminated in this disappointing end to what was a relatively enjoyable one up until a few weeks ago. How many times did we stand and clap the team off the pitch at the Deva (including the 5-2 defeat to Lincoln?)
I am sure we don't know the half of the amount of juggling that goes on behind the scenes as it can't be easy managing a team of part timers who have other responsibilities outside football, as well as gelling loanees and dealing with the long term injuries that were never factored in. I have to say that the team spirit has been a real plus for me this season and that is definitely down to the manager.
I think too we are all guilty of our expectations of the level of footballer too from the saturation of televised football. Alabi isn't Lukaku! I think people often forget that about players at this level.
I would though like to see an experienced older head (not a journeyman) brought into the team next season as we have seen some heads drop of late due to lack of confidence and ideas. This young squad knew no fear when they were on that great run I am sure with an older head around them they can kick on next season. Just sad that Sam Hughes won't be a part of it unless by some miracle he could be loaned back!
Spent up ? Whatever that means
A few weeks ? its been 4 months
Most of this squad are not fit to lace the boots of the team that won the Conference North
