Before I get accused of being a happy clapper let's take a reality check and think what we as fans are doing constantly abusing/ criticising/ hating on the staff and players.
Are we helping the current situation?
Yes they are in the public eye and that will always bring with it a responsibility to shoulder criticism but can you honestly imagine having to go to work and having customers/ clients hurling constant abuse and criticism at you whether that's verbally or via written feedback. It would absolutely affect your performance in what you do. I don't think footballers are any different to us in how they react to it. You may get some fans who say it should spur them on but I disagree I think it makes the players tense and produces an anxiety to perform which we are seeing now in our home games . We don't want this.
Yes the performances have been well below par, the decisions haven't been right at times, the quality has been lacking but at the start of the season when we got behind OUR team we performed and it was great football to watch at times. Now we don't get behind them and they don't perform to the same standard. Instead the games are littered with mistakes and poor choices as I am sure the players must be highly aware of fans backlash if it goes wrong. Worrying about something usual makes it happen. Away from home they have performed recently (last night included) as the fans who go away want to be there, they have made a conscious effort to go and back OUR team from the first whistle to the last.
We all want the Chester FC we love to win every game, we can't have this and we have to take the rough with the smooth. We had the smooth earlier on in the season and we are now having the rough but us as fans have a responsibility to shoulder some of the blame.
We are safe, let's get behind this team in the remaining games and see if we can help us finish on a positive.

I agree a positive atmosphere can really help the players. When the fans are rallying behind the team, that's when you see them chasing down loose balls, going into tackles, jumping for the headers etc...
Hence my efforts to improve the atmosphere and spur on the team. We can all play a part of course. Make some noise, join in with songs, whether that's come on city, or clap along to the more obscure chants, get behind the team. COYB.

The games away at Tranmere and York were good examples of this - we all got behind the team and came back from being behind to draw both, and on another day could have won both. Great atmosphere in the away end at both games. It's great when the players feed off our support and we feed off their good play and attacking football. There's been no atmosphere at the deva all season until the last few games with the lads in the Harry Mac. It works both ways though - they generally play better when we get behind them and we are noisier (in a good way) when they play well.

Whatever anyone thinks of how things are going at the club, on match days everyone should get 100% behind all of the players for the full duration of the game.

Good posts, if you are at the match supporting Chester, get behind them. It's YOUR club who YOU support, so support them by singing or clapping. Especially at Tranmere away we all felt like a big family behind the goal singing non-stop, and we got our reward in the end. At the end of the day, OUR support could prove to be a game changer.

Don't disagree with the OP but there is a tendency from some on here to think Chester fans are worse than Supporters of other clubs when it comes to complaining or criticising the team. Supporters of every club in the land will react in the same way when they don't see a win at home for 4 months.
In fact I would suggest that players and managers of other clubs with a similar recent record to ours would suffer a damn sight more abuse. Does anyone really think McCarthy would still be in a job at most clubs, I doubt it. We are aware of the financial constraints so in my view have shown a level of tolerance that would not be evident at most clubs, so let's stop beating ourselves up.

Absolutely young man, what a great feeling being surrounded by 2000 Chester fans singing your heart out seeing a last minute goal go in. That atmosphere should be at home every game, how many more people would go along if it is was. The days in evostick the home games were electric and fans made it special. The football was shite and yes we won games but the quality was a lot less than it is now.

Our away fans have always been good, in terms of numbers and noise. The Deva has always been pretty soulless.
