Info from an email sent out by Mark Salmon today.....
Chester FC are arranging a special event to encourage more women to come to live football matches.
Women at the game is the brainchild of Jacqui Foster, a lady who is terminally ill with cancer and is passionate about football. There will be a marquee available for the women with tea and cakes before the match and a welcoming committee including our ladies football team. The match will be the Easter Monday match against Woking on 17th April.
If you know of any women, young or old, that may be interested, please order tickets via community@chesterfc.com. Tickets are at a special price of £10. Tickets can then be collected at the marquee on the day of the game. Sky Sports News will be in attendance and will be filming the event along with interviews of participants.
For any further information, call the club on 01244 371376.
Thank you
Mark Salmon Sec. Senior Blues

Why do they have to email the club for tickets why not just pay at the turnstiles.

Not knocking the idea, but I'm sure when Chester City ran a couple of such initiatives in the mid-1990s with reduced admission for women they were told they could not do them any more as they breached equality regulations. I wouldn't be surprised if this also attracts complaints.

Why not charge a tenner for all adults, kids a quid . . . save the gate being a shocker.

It would smack of some sort of masculine insecurity!

I wouldn't be surprised if this also attracts complaints. Seems like a great idea to me. I can't imagine that it breaches any regulations as it's clearly tied in with a specific campaign - a similar thing would be a day where NHS staff get in at a reduced rate as part of a fundraiser for example. Sadly it will absolutely attract complaints because of the 'what-about-me'-ism that seems to go with any kind of campaign like this.

Take it the club will do a tenner for the men at the Boreham Wood game?

If it was the other way round there would be likely be absolute uproar from feminist groups, no matter what the cause...

Charging woman a tenner won't get many through the turnstiles as they'll have better things to do on a bank holiday than watch utter dross.

If it was the other way round there would be likely be absolute uproar from feminist groups, no matter what the cause... Depends on the situation I would've thought. If a female-dominated hobby like a crotcheting or netball club was struggling to get people in, I don't think there would be an outcry if someone suggested encouraging men to join by letting them in cheaper. I just see it as reaching out to an underrepresented demographic. If you look around you at the Deva or any other football match, a good 90% of the people around you will be men. It's a bit weird really. Personally, I like seeing blokes taking their girlfriends and daughters to games. I'm not into all this "working man's game" and "leave the wife at home" stuff, and I'm not sure society is anymore either. Perhaps an example of how clubs like ours need to modernise and diversify if they're going to get anywhere long term? Plus I'll admit I've only just read it properly and learned it's an initiative from a woman who has terminal cancer. I think anyone who's aware of that and is still feeling bitter about it is being remarkably petty.

I welcome every initiative to get more and new fans, be they aimed at youngsters, students, forces, retired whatever. My comment with this (and I can literally hear my late wife shouting it) is that many women also like beer (in pint pots) and crisps too!

Anyone who would actually complain about this needs to have a long look at themselves and their own existence, I think. It would smack of some sort of masculine insecurity! Or its just a shit initiative that won't change anything. Well, it takes a lot more effort to try and organise something than to sit around slagging it off, especially if you're dying of cancer.

Or its just a shit initiative that won't change anything. Oh come on. People complain the club don't do enough, so when they do something don't immediately slag it off. Otherwise they'll be far more cautious about launching anymore initiatives due to the reception it could get.

Do you think reducing the ticket prices for a Chester FC home match will get more women involved in football? You have to be taking the piss ffs. It's targeted at women, cakes tea coffee etc before the game...

I'm now convinced that whatever the subject we will argue - this is an initiative that the Club have embraced from a terminally Ill lady - get a grip folks

Good to see the club get behind this. Better notice would have been great, but I think the overall goal is showing that as a community club we are willing to support causes like this in any way we can. I don't see it as a massive initiative to get more women watching Chester, just backing a worth cause.

It does read as if the women are expected to all sit together and make new friends.
It is an interesting initiative, and one that should be supported. However, if you want to bring your girlfriend or wife (or someone elses!) along, they can't actually sit or stand with you. I suppose the aim though is to bring individual lone females in who would otherwise be afraid to go.
