A friend of ours has just lost her Husband to cancer and has been sorting through things in the loft and has come across a load of old photos reminding her of the wonderful times they had together and of family long since passed. This has got me thinking is this source of family memories on the way out as more and more photos are digital and stored on computers. Are our children and children's children going to miss out on a wonderful source of reminiscence as I doubt people will sort through someone's computer in the same manner? It has made me wonder whether I should get my recent photos printed for future generations to have the opportunity to look at.

I am a great collector of family photo's and I have a lot dating back to 1900.what I find frustrating is not knowing who some of the people are so every now and then I add names and ages to the back of them. There are not many of my lot left so it's always advisable to ask questions while you can still get answers

I'm in exactly the same position and I've been wondering whether to have my old photos printed and put into albums. I've decided not to, as the albums would take up room, and as you said, probably finish up stored in the loft, forgotten and gathering dust. If you see them on the laptop, however, the photos can be seen much better - bigger and enhanced by whichever programme the owner is using. Also, from there, it is quite easy to produce a calendar or photo book for a friend or relative you think may enjoy it. So although I don't know much about the digital age and am much of a Luddite where computers are concerned, I think that's the way I'll go over the next few weeks and months.

I know what you're saying and I'm as much of a Luddite with computers it's just if they are gathering dust in the loft they are still there to be found whereas a computer is likely to be discarded or will the modern generation come up with something new to ensure memories are not lost

Then everything is all together in one small device that doesn't take up much room.

I have been getting prints off my phones memory card then putting them in albums and adding a few words about each one It fills in some miserable winter days. I have some great pictures of my grand father from the boer war he was in the Coldstream guards. I have had them coloured and they look great.
