Have we got any friendlies lined up against opposition from a higher league? Surprised if not We did play Salford albeit a reserves side. We were meant to play Macclesfield today... tried to find alternative opposition before opting to have a training session instead. Doubt we'll be able to arrange anything else now with leagues back underway. I wondered why we didn’t have a game today, just our luck I suppose! ☹️

The proposed events from 1 October with 30% capacity have all been paused in response to the recent increase in Covid cases. Not a surprise really, but that's a real concern for clubs. I don't see how the season can be even half completed given likely local, and countrywide, lockdowns or restrictions over the winter. Gloucester maybe able to play at home, but Chorley maybe locked down most of the winter. Quite right too, some might say! I'd still feel safer outside at a sporting event like football or horse racing, than I would in a pub. I think the only reasons these are open are economic. I do fear for the football pyramid, as we know it. Edit - there is a really informative post by avfo of a statement by Merthyr Town in the "not us unfortunately" thread. Basically they've decided to suspend their season, and not play any games in 20/21. I suspect many more will soon follow. Admittedly being in Wales hasn't helped them, with potentially different restrictions.

I'm more glass-half-full at the moment. Living in an area that has had very high infection rates for the past 6 weeks we have not seen any spike in hospital admissions or covid deaths. I realise that may change, but death rates seem to be low across Europe even while tested cases are spiking.
I don't know whether that means the virus has mutated very slightly to a less dangerous form (historically that was always very likely) or something else, but if it continues it will then have an impact on restrictions and their necessity which would then at least give hope that a season could be completed.
It should be noted I am not in favour of loosening restrictions just yet, as part of a regional management team we took the decision to close our Bolton NW office again last week and have staff again working from home (it had only reopened 2 weeks prior to that), but this feels so far duifferent to how it did back in March...

Off to watch Hyde United V South Shields today in the newly-named Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division. Given spectators can’t attend our friendly is anyone else off to watch a game today?

It finished Hyde United 0-0 South Shields in what was a decent match for a stalemate. Both sides played a good brand of football, but unfortunately chances were at a premium so it came to no huge surprise to see no goals scored. Kingsley James played the full 90 for Hyde where he put himself about, and another former Seal in Jason Gilchrist lined up for Shields. I also had a good chat with Matty Thomson’s dad before the game too.
