.... I've still got plenty of patience.... the blokes learning his trade ... no shortage of effort today and signs of a decent performance second half .... no evidence in the stats that clubs who rotate managers eventually succeed.... third lowest playing budget and we are not third bottom ... to improve, we need to release perhaps the five worse players and sign five significantly better players ... whether JM can achieve this remains to be seen.... up the seals, now where did I put me tin hat ..... Didn't Lincoln change their manager at the end of last season? Where managers are changed during the season the stats are probably right, but after sacking Burr last season, JM won three of the last four games !
It is very difficult to have any confidence in a manager who has not won at home for nearly 5 months and lost 10 out of 11 home games, plays numerous formations with players out of position and makes baffling comments to the media. We don’t have a huge budget, although nobody really knows how it compares to others. But we certainly need to recruit better than we did before this season, even given the later disappointing injuries . Given our form since mid December, which has clearly impacted on attendances, can a fans owned club really afford to once again trust, as you say, a "bloke learning his trade" with our very limited budget? Surely results from Mid December speak for themselves.

He has to go, after giving him the benefit of the doubt recently I feel he has lost the crowd ! When this happens your time is up, constantly praising the players and saying the fans should be grateful for what they have achieved !!!!!!!!! Terrible league position, knocked out of cups early, playing dire negative football and crowds falling .....What planet is he on? Did anyone notice that he stood as far away as was possible from Iwelumo for long parts of game ? Shouldn't they be working together ! Also why was McIntyre giving the subs instructions, this is the managers job !

Was taking a look at the league table by different dates and all that, to see just how bad the past few months have been.
On New Year’s Eve we were 7th and six points from a play-off place. If the season had started on New Year’s Day (I know it didn't, but it's highlighting our form) we’d be bottom of the entire league now with just 13 points from 18 games, five points from safety.

When Wrexham gave Keates a three and a half year contract, they allegedly included a performance related clause that they would not have to pay the balance of the contract if he was dismissed. I wonder whether our Board had the foresight to do likewise. Billy's, I normally agree with everything you say, but I think we need to accept that the board made a mistake - one that was picked up by just a very few fans at the time. We can't do anything about that except hope that the board will be wiser in the future. What we can do is get rid of this clown of a manager before he destroys us. Not only is he a poor manager and tactician but he seems deluded about his ability. How many mistakes is that now? We done exactly the same with Burr, do we not learn our lesson.

At the end of last season I thought that Jon McCarthy and Ian Sharps deserved a chance to try and continue their good start, but I was always concerned that their inexperience of managing at this level and low budget would mean poor recruitment. Whilst a more professional approach to training may have compensated and produced a well bonded group the overall lack quality is evident. Jon's still insisting on retaining the bulk of this squad, and will lose the better players so I think he needs to go as recruitment won't be any better. If he stays then first recruit should be a committed experienced assistant whose first priority is Chester FC. There is talk of moving to 52 week contracts, followed by increasing the number of days per week the players attend training. As we seem to run out of steam and ideas in the last 15 minutes of games perhaps increasing the number of days training at the expense of 52 weeks contracts would be more beneficial.

The interviews with between Neil Turner and McCarthy have been getting more and more spikey with McCarthy struggling to deal with it, some of his replies have been dreadful, today's after match interview was embarrassing. Neil is just asking what any fan would ask and the manager is struggling to comprehend it all, unbelievable.

Neil is just asking what any fan would ask and the manager is struggling to comprehend it all, unbelievable. I must admit, today's post match interview was difficult to watch. McCarthy seems to really believe that the job he and his team have done is above question or criticism. I totally agreed when we lost 4 on the spin at home that these players had performed above expectation and criticism at that point was unjust. 10 games is an extraordinary run of poor form and it's a journalist's job to ask questions. JM could do himself a lot of good by playing them straight bat. A staple answer of "This run of form is unacceptable, we'll work twice as hard in training to put it right and give our fans something to smile about" is all that is needed. If he's still here next season, he'll need a much thicker skin.

I've backed McCarthy but today has done it for me. How many times have we lost a game at home in the last 10 minutes? Tranmere, Barrow and today is what I can recall off the top of my head. He just doesn't know how to see a game out. Today at 2-1 you could see Lloyd's legs had gone and we just needed some fresh legs in midfield. Why was Dawson not brought on. Making one substitution in a game that's come only 2 days after the most of that 11 being run ragged by FGR stinks.
If we can't afford to sack him, sack Iwelumo and get an experienced assistant. In an ideal world Marcus Bignot as manager would be a great appointment.

I really do hope the club has put in a performance clause in JM contract and we have learnt our lessons from the past.

If they have done, I would imagine it would be along the lines of keeping us in the division. Technically he will have achieved that, barring a crazy set of results between now and the end of the season. The real debate revolves around whether it was his work that achieved that or not.

I was at the game today as usual with my team playing in another Roman City. Having seen all but one of your games this year yes I am a glutton for punishment the main thing I can see in your team from December to know is discipline and control in defending. The Defence today was ragged and just hoofing the ball anywhere. Earlier in the season there was more playing it around with confidence. I honestly thought with a heavy heart you were going to make the playoffs. What a relief you let your main man go Sharpes was immense for you. At least both my team and yours are going to be in this poxy league again next season. Things can only get better next season

to put it in stark terms, at home WE HAVE WON 1 POINT OUT OF THE LAST 33 POSSIBLE and that was by courtesy of a penalty in the local derby. Surely this must be some sort of record. Unless there is some drastic change, the future of this club looks very precarious. McCarthy is a decent man so let's hope he does the decent thing and resigns but I doubt it, as on Planet Jon we are doing fine.

And that's the thing, I like Jon, I really do. He's a really nice bloke and I could chat to him for hours about all things football. But, it's a results business at the end of the day and we are not getting results.
His trust in this squad has been his undoing. January came and he has stuck with players who should have been shipped out in my opinion. Our Captain who has done nothing in his 2 year stint with us should have been shipped out for starters, Jordan Chappell, and Ross Killock another (if he's still not fit). That would surely have freed up some room in the budget to bring in another one or 2 faces to freshen things up and keep players on their toes.
Any manager at this level working with a tight budget needs to be able to wheel and deal as well. A tight budget like ours means that is players don't perform at an acceptable level for a period of time that we have a management team in place who are ruthless enough to get rid.

it is unlikely he will walk away from a two year contact and it would cost a fortune to sack him and pay him off...... How do you know. It is perfectly lawful to dismiss someone employed on a fixed term contract when they are not performing. The proviso is that a clause allowing this must be inserted into the contract and whether the Board had the nous to do so is another matter. It would show a level of incompetence if they hadn't done so, particularly after being in a similar situation with Burr.

So many slagging the board's decision to give a two year contract but I recall it was n extremely popular move on Devachat, with little or no dissent. Stop slagging the board for a decision you agreed with at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If our aim every season is just to stay up then what hope have we got? Where is the clubs ambition? If it's the same next season then I'll just pick and choose my games.
McCarthy out.

The Club need to come up with a mutual agreement for him to depart. Maybe give him a years severance pay from the Hughes money. The situation has now become untenable. I was desperate for McCarthy to succeed but the past four months have shown that the task is too much for him. I'm sure he would be a good coach.
Unfortunately morale is now at an all time low following the same rhetoric and spin that we hear defeat after defeat.
The club just feels stale at the moment. There is no push for season tickets with early bird deals, e-mails about club shop sales. Even a promotion for the last game of the season for our long suffering fans would be nice. It seems that we are expected to put our hands in our pockets and if we dissent about lacklustre performances then we should be shot down in flames.

I think the term "not performing" is a little ambiguous to be put in a contract. For instance, in McCarthy's eyes - he is performing, and who's to say he hasn't achieved any verbal targets that were set him when the contract was offered? For all we know, his remit may simply have been to keep us in the league, which is looking likely that he's achieved. Going forward, any contract given to a new potential manager must state clearly what the goals are with consequences written into the contract if we don't hit targets. For instance, as a minimum it should be to avoid relegation or else terminate the contract without recompense, then assuming we have stayed up, financial penalties to the contract (wage cut) attached if we don't hit eg.65 points. On the flip side there should be a small bonus for reaching the playoffs and getting to the third round of the fa cup. These sort of things are easy to put in contracts and then everybody knows exactly what is expected along with the rewards if we reach said targets and consequences if we fail.
