Seriously, why does it always have to be like this? With the exception of three games (I am excluding the Wrexham game plus Witton Albion) this has been one of the most joyless periods I can think of watching Chester FC/ Chester City. There are similarities with 07/08 when we were second in November and then narrowly stayed up, on the basis that I am greatly concerned for next season (whether we do or don't stay up).
I think the most frustrating point is that survival is still in our hands but I know that isn't enough because we are so poor/ the confidence has completely gone.
Can anyone offer me any words of solace/ positive news with regard to our club?!

I just can't believe with what's been going on at home. It seems to be if we're playing at a graveyard or something. Before Christmas it was a fortress but we've not won in 2017. Clueless!

I've been desperately searching for one ray of positivity to give me encouragement towards next season. I honestly can't think of one - even when trying my best to be positive. Surely the board must see this as well, or are they now so distant from the feelings of the real fans that they don't? I'm still coming to terms with the fact that one elected board member doesn't even know how much it is to get in, when trying to go out on the offensive at fans who were making genuine points. Everything just seems so defensive.

I think what's difficult at the moment is that it doesn't feel like there's a lot of hope. Things have been far worse than this but we've always been able to think "things can only improve next season", but right now it doesn't feel like they will due to the manager not seeing a problem. The first half of the season had made us believe it was possible for a club like ours to succeed in this division, and I still think it is, but it's all gone spectacularly wrong since and there's an inevitability about us losing at the moment.

There was a similar vibe last season when we knew the likes of Heneghan & Hannah weren't staying, but even with the players that Macca signed last summer I convinced myself that we would be relegation fodder this season. I was happy to be proven wrong in the first half of the season, but it's turning out that i was right after all.
To be fair, Macca did have some bad luck losing Sharps and with havinv so many injuries, but he niavely refused to strengthen when we desperately needed reinforcements and chose to appoint Iwelumo who has only been at half our games, so he really doesn't do himself any favours at times.
I wonder now if players like Lloyd, Astles, Hunt and Shaw will be so keen to stay?

What a lot of fans don't realise is that Jon McCarthy was himself is trained in sports reporting and has media experience so that in these testy interviews that Neil Turner conducts Jon knows what Neil is getting at and therefore will chose his words very carefully. A good manager will always protect his players and the big plus point for me this season is the team spirit that Jon has created out of this team. I am sure the reason that we punched above our weight in the early part of the season is because Jon really worked very hard on each indivdual player to improve parts of their play and iron out the weaknesses and in so doing so built a team that worked together. How come for instance did Ryan Lloyd decide to chose to stay with Chester than chase the money at Southport? He must have been enjoying his football and playing for Jon. Let us not forget that coinciding with the departure of Ian Sharps which no-one could forsee and left Jon in a predicament, were the injuries to Mahon, Chapell and Akintunde who all gave the team some zest and later the loss of Hunt to his bans. We haven't played well when Jonny Hunt has not been in the team. The end of season is very disappointing and we all feel the pain but I do think there is hope as long as we learn from what went wrong this season. The Board and the fans are all equal in this too and we all need to play our part to get things right for next season.

If he's been media trained or studied sports reporting it must have been at the Garth Crooks school of long windedness. And his comments about Hudson were just bizarre. Not sure what he was trying to achieve there but it backfired big time.

Oddly, was only last week thinking how our season was so much like an Elton John gig. So glad I was not the only one. John clearly needs to brush up on alll possible entertainment industry analogies in case he's tested by Mr Turner again. Having thought this through further I'm now thinking the season, particularly the latter part, has been like that tedious part of 'The Voice'. where most of the panel have already selected their team, i.e. desperate and predictable. Hopefully the next match and next season will have more matches for Neil that "ebb & flow and tug at every nrerve and sinew"
