No doubt he's a great prospect but he's miles away from being a Championship player yet. The problem for us is that these lads get cherry picked after a handful of games ....it's a no brainer for clubs like Stoke. They pay a small up front fee and dangle the carrot of add ons. If they don't make it, they just spit them out in two or three years. At least in the old days you got to see a player like Rush have a season for us. Not sure what the answer is. This lad will make it and I ll tell you why? Self belief and zero fear. All the better players, I ever worked with had it. Its why they stand out. According to Stoke he has gone straight into the U23's , that says something. Let's hope so. Some of the Stoke fans want him straight in the first team 🤣. They don't like Sam Vokes much

Don't you just love DC? One poster states not official but heard fee is ÂŁ7k...another states that he has heard it is not. Would both of you care to confirm where you got your information from ?
Cheers

Cheers From the Stoke City forum. That's why I made it clear it was not official so it can be taken with a pinch of salt. The poster was categoric, for what it's worth. If the clubs choose not to be transparent, of course there will be speculation. That's what forums are for.

According to Jono’s interview Stoke inquired if we had any young lads that they might be interested in Wills name was mentioned so they took him on trial for two days, seems they were so impressed by him they wanted to do a deal straight away before the deadline.

Gutted we couldn’t see more of Will as he was really exciting to watch in the run of games he participated in around Christmas, but it’s still a fully deserved move nonetheless. He’s already proved that he has loads of potential at such a young age, so this move will be excellent for his development as Stoke City have brilliant facilities and a successful academy. From our perspective it’s definitely best for this business to be completed now as we will receive a decent financial boost, whereas if Will was to depart in the Summer we wouldn’t receive a penny. Let’s face it, it’s unlikely we will be playing in the near future anyway so it’s certainly a deal which is great for both parties. Money is paramount for clubs like ourselves in these difficult times, while from Will’s perspective it’s a dream move for him and one which will be a major milestone in his career. Calum McIntyre and all at our academy once again deserve a huge amount of appreciation for developing yet another talented product on our conveyor belt, and I am sure there will be more to come in the future. Good luck for the rest of your career Will!

Mixed emotions really. Gutted we only got to see a glimpse of what he can do for us after being at the club for so long with the academy, but made up for Will and the academy that another player has progressed.
Similar to Sam Hughes, it was easy to see that he has the attributes to have a good footballing career, so good luck to him. It would be great if we could bring Will and Connor Taylor back on long term loans next season (assuming this season doesn’t finish).

If he left in 4 months I'm fairly sure we are still entitled to compensation due to his age, so the hope would be that what Stoke have paid now is worth more than what that would have been.

Ifs buts and maybes aside what a cracking move for the lad and I doubt anyone would want to hold him back. What a strange year it has been for all of us, many of us have lost loved ones and seen our life's disrupted in many ways. Some of us have continued to work in extreme circumstances while others have not been able to, imagine what it was like during the plague. People moan about modern technology yet here we are in the middle of a pandemic keeping in touch with our families and debating football. I for one cant wait for things to return to normal but at least we have a degree of normality best of Luck Will do us proud.

Delighted for Will, soon as he played you could see the ability already, thoroughly deserves the move and again hats off to the academy for producing another First Team player.
In terms of Stoke, I think it would be an ideal club to start a partnership/feeder club with for the future. We have signed players such as James Alabi, Ben Heneghan, (Joel Taylor was also at the Stoke set up) and they have all come to us, improved then moved on for teams in higher divisions.
A regular pre season friendly at the Deva and maybe 1 player on loan from their u23 side would be great for us and we could build a good relationship between the two clubs.

WG reminds me of Olli Mcburnie when he was here. Lacking experience, a bit raw but you could see he was destined for better things. Look where O Mc ended up!

When Will came on against Vauxhall’s in the pre season friendly, he was like a whirlwind. Despite his age he played with an impressive maturity and confidence level. He is going to do well at Stoke. Good luck Will. 👍

Can't say I saw an awful lot of the lad, so can't say I think he is definite championship quality nor am I sad about it, no doubt he is a big strong boy for his age which is useful for that league, Stoke clearly rate him & if he can make the club some serious money in the future then it's a good deal for both clubs.
Isn't this young centre back on loan from Stoke?

If I heard Jonno's interview correctly then Connor Taylor wont be coming back from Stoke as they want him loaned out to a league 2 or National league premier club for better experience. To good for our division by far.
