Fantastic news. Exactly what we should be doing to raise the next Sam Hughes.

Brian Burns did an update on this last night and said as a result we will be joining the National League Youth Alliance and instead of playing the likes of Curzon Ashton, Prescott cables etc we will be playing National League Premier and North teams which is a huge step forward.
Not only will the players now be contracted and therefore demand some sort of fee if they're poached, but we will also be able to compete with the likes of Wrexham, Tranmere and Crewe for local talent.
The lads will be getting a level 3 qualification and some may choose to do a coaching certificate, so if these lads don't break into the first team (as the majority dont) they're at least leaving Chester FC with a qualification and the hope is some may return to chester to do some coaching. The club are in talks with the Council to use the abandoned boxes in the West Stand as classrooms.
Someone asked on a thread earlier in the week for ANY good news regarding CFC, well this is it!

It seems good news doesn't get a lot of comments. Looks like our CEO has been busy building for our future after all.

Really good news from the Club. Be great to see more young local talent getting into our first team.

So what exactly are they getting a level three in? Will the students be able to choose their subject or will it just be a bog standard sports NVQ where they will end up working at the Northgate as a lifeguard?

I'm a qualified lifeguard (NPLQ, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification), and I'm not sure it would link in that well with the scholarship scheme. Maybe something more sports based, but yes it would be good for them to have a choice. I think I saw somewhere the club will help it's students find a local college & course.
