Sooner they go under the better. Sick of competing with these types of sides.

They should be embarrassed. Ridiculous.

A quick calculation suggests to me the average wage there is about £1600. Their total wage bill for the year was over £2.1 million. Madness.

I'm just jealous we haven't got that sort of cash to splash about as with our current management team I'm sure we'd be right up there

Agree, not jealous of them at all.

I'm not jealous of their unsustainable business model or the ability to bottle the league every year just the cash they've got to spend.

It's a mirror image of Rushden and Diamonds - except it's taking them longer to get in the league at a huge cost - I don't care how rich the owner he can't sustain that sort of loss for long - tick tock

It'll all end in tears, After what we've been through ourselves, we shouldn't wish anything bad on any football club (OK, maybe one or two, I suppose.........) but you can't help but have no sympathy whatsoever for them. It's completely unsustainable. Yet there are plans for a brand new wooden stadium costing tens of millions? This after moving into the New Lawn not so long ago? Money is no object to their absolute lunatic of an owner, we know that, but come on, with crowds of shy of a thousand, failing to get promotion year in year out (I can't see them doing it this year either), there's no way they can carry on like this. And who suffers most? Their supporters. Surely it must hurt them having their once proud club being regarded as a deeply unpopular club. It's a running joke and it's a farce that even at this level, the FA are allowing clubs to live way beyond their means in this way. Sooner the National League has FFP rules (I know, it sounds ridiculous doesn't it?), the better.

Sad as it seems I don't think it will end soon. Max Griggs got fed up after about 10/15 years before he pulled out and wrote off £25m. Most of Swampy's money comes from the tax payer as he builds up Ecotricity. The sooner the government stops subsidising his business the sooner it will go tits up.

Wage bill of £2m+ in non-league is just crazy, it's not like they've got anything to show for the money pumped in.

They'll be gone soon. They don't deserve to be competing with us. This is why I would like Lincoln to go up, proper team. The quicker FGR go down the better!

Horrible football club - smeared with arrogance and entitlement. Wonder how much Mark Cooper is on to be there? Both he and his son symbolise everything that is wrong with that football club based on their behaviour in our recent fixture. Players there on £2,000+ a week is embarassing - particularly when you consider they still can't win anything. Shame as it was a great little club. Does make you wonder how much Eastleigh have been rolling out as I would say their transfer dealings have been even more extreme. Both of these examples highlight everything that is wrong with football at our level, but FA seem to turn a blind eye. Lincoln are a proper club and on crowds of 6,000/7,000 have the means to financially compete.

He'll keep going - losing 2 million is not a great deal to him - Ecotricity is one of the great success stories of modern times. Unfortunately.

He'll keep going - losing 2 million is not a great deal to him - Ecotricity is one of the great success stories of modern times. Unfortunately. Indeed. FGR are owned by Ecotricity it's not simply Vince on his own. The company is able and willing to sustain such losses for years to come. This is not about one man and his ego, they have a strategic plan which, in effect, has little to do with football. The company admitted years ago that FGR was, to them, an effective form of advertising and PR. Over the years hundreds of column inches about FGR in part, but mainly about Vince and Ecotricity have appeared in the broadsheets so reaching a fair proportion of the companies targeted clientele for free. The club’s green credentials simply mirrors the company’s green energy profile. The millions spent will be seen by the company as money well spent when they finally get the planning permission for the eco park and knock down the New Lawn for housing. Losses made by the club will probably offset against profits made by the parent company. By his actions of 'saving' a small club which was about to go bust and turning it into promotion contenders Dale has gone from weird hippy to local hero. Cynical? probably, mad? probably not. According to their research if they get the move to junction 13, because of its location gates had the potential to quadruple. If they do go up losses will shrink considerably but for the foreseeable future the company will take the hit. As for that £2.1 wage bill, that includes 37 admin and support staff as well as 33 players and management staff . Like Eastleigh FGR are an extreme example of financial doping, unlike Eastleigh this is not a vanity project, it's all to do with power (of the green variety).

Doesn't the money pumped into the football club mean that Ecotricity have to pay less corporate tax also? As a fan of a club that went bust I find it slightly hypocritical of us to wish it on FGR, however not only was our situation different to theirs, there have been so many more cases of clubs going bust chasing the dream in recent years than when Vaughan took over CCFC, so really they should know better. But then again, what could the fans do about it?

This can only happen in football Nope happens in the UK hockey leagues like clockwork. Manchester Phoenix have just gone bust due to the owner spending far beyond his means.

I used to love going to watch the Blues play Forest Green at The Old Lawn. Trevor Horsley the chairman at that time was a proper football person, and a true gent. I remember him coming around selling raffle tickets in the bar before the game.Trevor was the chairman for many years and was mainly responsible for the club's rise from local football. It was a lovely friendly place to watch football, and you could get a good beefburger.
